Title: Broken gear tooth
Post by: dgibbons on August 06, 2013, 05:54:02 PM
I just installed a 13:1 SHS gear set along w/spring guide, piston & head.
All seemed good yesterday.  Went to test fire today & about half way through
the midcap the gearbox started grinding.
Open the box & see one of the teeth on the sector gear broken off.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks for the help.

It could have either been shimming, too light of a spring, and/or AoE(angle of engagement for sector to piston teeth).

SHS also had some gear quality issues for a while. perhaps you had a bad run. I don't believe it was ever in the sector gear though. most likely a shim issue

Did the gears move freely after you shimmed it with little side to side play?

We have been building with shs for months with no problems

The gears moved freely.  Looks like to much axial movement on the sector gear.

SHS and Core gears are hit or miss. I'd recommend getting them through either Spazz on the forums here or brillarmory.com, they both personally inspect their gears before sending them out and will usually be helpful in getting them RMA'd if they fail.

We also carry shs. You can drop off the gear at the store for spazz if you'd like. He should be there today

Thanks to Spazz who replaced the sector gear no questions.

If you're in the N Valley check out Command Post.
They have good stock on V2 internals.
