Here is a map to the AO.
(the dot is the conoco, the dash is the exit)
It is approx. 20 miles North of the Ba'Ja Conoco gas station on HWY 87.  There is a bridge you will pass over, then a small green sign that says "Sycamore Creek."
Make that exit by turning East.
Here is a map of the parking area from there.

There very well may be campers, ATVers, and families in the parking area.  Try to keep a low profile, and do not make alot of noise.  If we have to, we can park along the dirt road on the way in.  I'll make that call on Saturday.

Keep in mind Christian not all the guys here are in Military shape,
So if your planning on over a few miles per hump  better let the guys know up front.

For me big field = better sniping  ;)

If you can handle a regular game for the entire day, you'll be able to handle this one.

The terrain is flat, and speed will be slow.  The teams will hopefully concentrate on formations/tactics, rather than speed.

You will be hunted along the way.

AZSarge,

Are we sure that Bushnell will be open?  I got this off of the Tonto National Forest website on Dec. 24th.

Some Burned & Flooded Areas
Remain Closed
Some areas scorched by the Cave Creek, Bart and Edge fires or damaged by recent flooding on the Tonto National Forest remain closed to the public.

There are currently no campfire, smoking or other fire restrictions on the Tonto. Motorized use within burned areas is prohibited or restricted.
• Order 12-215 Cave Creek Complex Wildfire Special Restrictions (.pdf)

Seven Springs will re-open 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5. However, crews will continue to work on Seven Springs Rd. repairing areas as needed.

On the Mesa Ranger District, due to this summer's Edge Fire, Bushnell Tanks remains closed. For more information, contact the Mesa Ranger District at 480.610.3300.

I've heard from several people that BT is closed, this just re-inforces the fact.

I went out looking for new AOs along the HWY87 today.  Found some, if you don't mind cacti.

We will figure out which AO is best for this skirmish, and I'll post location as it's updated.

Meeting time and place will not change.
Title:
Post by: azsarge on December 26, 2005, 02:18:12 AM
I'm going to BT myself tomorrow to get to the bottom of this bullshit.

Frankly, I don't see the need to close an area for the simple fact that it's burned.    But, that doesn't change the fact that it may or may not be available for the game.

I'm going, and I'm finding a good spot for this game, dammit.
Title:
Post by: jwflowersii on December 26, 2005, 07:32:58 AM
The reason they close it, is because without any vegetation to soak up the water and provide barriers their is more risk of flooding and mud slides.

I don't know if you're done with the search for new AOs or not, but I was always wondering about the turn off that was only about a quarter of a mile from the Conoco. I think it is the Verde River turn off. I have frequently looked down there as we were passing it, and it always seemed like it could be a neat place to play. It looks like there is a formidable amount of trees down there, so my assumption is there is some good cover.

It is Indian Reservation and you will not be able to play there!

What about Pathfinder?

We got some sh*t last time we played there, and I just want to wait awhile before we go back.  I want to get documentation that allows us to play there, so I can present it to any park rangers that may come along.

Since it's a very busy place with ATVers and such, there are tons of Park Rangers there on a Saturday morning.

So, Airsofter1 and I went out looking for new AOs last night and found this place:

It's Sycamore Creek, almost to BT on the HWY87 traveling North from the conoco.  It's about 23 miles north of the conoco.

There is plenty of cover, the ground is mostly flat with several small hills.  The foliage is mostly woody stemmed bushes, with very few cacti (I saw 3 the whole day), and is intermittent enough to allow fast moving.

It's a ver neat AO, similar to BT before it was all overgrown.

There is also a creek, with flowing water.

We're going to have the January AA game there.

Post by: EagleEye on December 27, 2005, 01:00:00 PM
Up around Seven Springs is another great place to play. Also north of Cavecreek/Carefree area.
Title:
Post by: Doc Hollywood on December 27, 2005, 01:22:36 PM
Looks good - this AO is in the national forest?

BTW - national forest land is pretty much wide open and absent a VALID closure, the forest rangers really have no standing to harrass.  But what do I know !
Title:
Post by: gixser13 on December 27, 2005, 01:55:05 PM
Sycamore Creek is a nice spot, I used to go there alot when I had my rail
Title:
Post by: azsarge on December 27, 2005, 02:37:04 PM
I remember reading somewhere that Seven Springs is closed as well.

Yes, the AO is in the Tonto National Forest.

Dave, do remember it being particularly busy on Saturday mornings?  It looks like a great place to camp, and there is evidence of ATV traffic there.  My only concern is that it will be teeming with civilians on off-road vehicles and campers laid out every where.

Regardless, there are places we can go that ATVs and campers cannot in that AO, so even if it's busy, we can have a game there.
Title:
Post by: gixser13 on December 27, 2005, 02:55:47 PM
When I used to go there 7-8 years ago there was a lot of ATVs and Sand rails , Most of them like the big open area. If I remember right there was some dense areas east of there that had a lot of paths and lot less traffic,

There is the open river bed area and few trail spots which are did you look at, Were you in the sand area? Sand = lots of ATVs
Title:
Post by: azsarge on December 27, 2005, 02:58:10 PM
Dave, I think you're thinking of Sycamore farther South of this AO.

We call that Area "Pathfinder AO", and yes, it's very busy.

This exit is just a few miles short of BT.

Or as the rules state you could go if a parent can be present at the game.  Then I would imagine you could be paired up with someone for the day. But even this rule is a bit odd as the liablity is still there.   Dont take my word for it, Im not the organizer nor can I speak for everyone who would be on the field that day.

I was guessing you were talking to me. But I'm still glad I don't have to pack both sets of BDUs for this game.

Gotcha.

I was talking to anyone that isn't on the roster yet.  I make rosters so guys can keep track of team assignments, and play with their buddies.  It also helps me keep a visual record of attendance.  Once I have more than 35 players, it doesn't really matter from an organizational standpoint.

There will be no further updates of the roster.

There are enough people already that one or two additions will not alter the balance.

I got the whole day off, so i'm definitely in.  i'll be carpooling deathbydanish.  so yeah... im looking forward to seeing alot of people there!  i will also be packin my Tokyo Marui spring powered M16A1.  It's old, weak, but accurate.  does anyone have any 6mm [aintballs or where i can find some?  the clip for the M16 looks gentle enough to load paintballs in... and because its so weak, i dont think that you can really feel it over BDUs, that's why i was thinking about loading it with paintballs so i tell if i got a hit... but i dunno.... if there are rules against not using paintballs, then i'll abide.  also, i dont know if the gun can safely shoot paintballs... it should tho...
it's just gonna be my back up rifle for sniping  (single shot)
Title:
Post by: Vince on January 16, 2006, 10:18:11 PM
As nice as it's gonna come : paintballs are not allowed.

I am poor to okay at fighting but if you were to stain my gear with billets colorantes (Flying Colors. They don't wash out), it'd be comical how quickly I become adept at all styles of the martial arts.

Can't wait to see you out there without your paintballs.

DO NOT bring paintballs.

This has never been an issue before, and it will NOT be an issue now.

Post by: SilentDragon on January 16, 2006, 10:42:49 PM
aiight aiight.... no paintballs gotcha... just a question...

:D  well, imma still bring the AR, but please understand that it is weak, and is either gonna be used as a secondary rifle for sniping (accuracy is great, but the power is what kills the distance... but aiming higher to accomodate the drop has always worked  :P)  and for looks.  It is a Marui rifle....

You can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't involve paintballs, paintgrenades, or whatever else.

Aiight... i just need a decent GBB before the game and should be aiight...  i dont think my TM spring pistols will cut it for this kind of game... but i'll most likely bring them too anyways (you can never be TOO strapped)

I'll bring my Tokyo Marui SPAS12, I'm willing to let you use it, just be aware that it has a 3 shot spread. (I've got 7 shells, which will give you like 70 shots effectively)

Drive out towards Ft. McDowell Casino.  Across the highway is a Conoco station.  I think its HWY 87, but if I'm wrong try mapquest.com  Meet there and follow the caravan out to the op.

I was wondering if anyone has a spare KJW GBB M9 magazine that i could maybe borrow?  Jungletoy doesnt have any in stock right now, and all i have is one mag for my new M9.

Oh, and I also bought a matching BDU jacket for my pants.  Just a question, do patches have to come off?  and if not, does it matter what kind of patches they are?  he BDU is USAF issue... so its got USAF patches and such...   (sorry for the dumb questions again :D)

IIRC its not an absolute requirement, but it would be nice if you did take them off.

Yes take them off, unless you earned the patches it is not correct to wear them.  They should come right off without much work.
Title:
Post by: Doc Hollywood on January 19, 2006, 12:42:59 PM
if its only air force patches it doesn't really matter...  just dont wear any army patches you haven't earned ... !!

Kidding... mostly...
Title:
Post by: SilentDragon on January 19, 2006, 12:44:37 PM
i know... well, the pants were my step-father's  (he's retired from the service now, Air Force).  And the top to match it is obviously AF issue, too.  My dad i still in the service tho, he left the other day to go back to Afghanistan for three months.

Anyways, i'll be sure to take em off.
:)

if his dad is in afghanistan i think he most certainly can wear the patches. at least thats my opinion. but most of the guys hear like to think themselves as military when there not.

Well I am, and even I don't wear my patches.

Silent, you can leave them on if you want for this game.  It's a preference.  You'll probably get more flak from the civilian guys than the guys that are in the military, but  do take them off when you get a minute.  One game is no biggie, and at least  you HAVE BDUs.

And I have a M9 mag you can borrow.  Of course, you break it = you buy it. 8)

Im not quite sure what that's supposed to mean.  Anyways most feel that if you have not earned it, dont wear it.

Dragon, if your BDU top is your dad's, I would personally not wear it to games as it could get damaged. And I wouldnt want you to take off your dads patches.  I would just get a new or used BDU shirt.

Edit: And as C has just  stated just minutes before me, if that is all you have for the moment, at least you have BDUs  :)

What I got from his posts is that the BDUs belong to a retired Airman, Ryan.

Post by: SilentDragon on January 19, 2006, 02:50:01 PM
well, the top wasn't mine, and so i ook the patches off.  it didnt have names or anything, just said airforce... wait, then again it had stripes on it.

i would have kept em on, or at least one to kinda give recognition and support or something for my dad, represent you kno.  but i know how the military is (military brat all my life), so there is also honor in those patches.  and to wear someone else's earned patches is like dishonoring that person's work..... i think.

my BDU's are all plain now, no patches... just three color desert.

And if i need more uniforms... i'm sure my dad and/or step-dad may have a few old pairs laying around.  i got the pants and jacket when i asked him if he had some i could borrow for paintball.  then he just gave me an old set... but i left the top he gave me back in Tucson.  :P

Oh, and thx for lettin me use that mag during the game.  :D

Due to car problems, my team and I will not be able to make it to the event.
I know I said I would not back out at the last minute, but this problem was un-avoidable, and I was not in control. I am sorry if this causes any problems with you guys, and I hope in the future that this will not come back to haunt our rep.

Since the roster has been finalized a week ago, I would hope that this is not the case, and the teams will remain even.

Have fun, and good luck. I hope to join you guys in the future.
