Ya'll want the "Simple answer?"

Cause their Squad/Plt/ Company leaders are cruel sadistic SOB's and wanna see the lil guy have to hump the heavy stuff.  It's esp funny in Basic, or AIT and they give it to a lil 90lb female!

Honestly it is normally based on who is avail, and who has the mental and skill aptitude for use of the Crew served weapon, be it a M249, M240, M19, or M2.

But once in a while you do see the sadistic NCO issueing it out just to make someone sweat it out on a march.

However, can someone please explain the American freedom that comes from the fighting in Iraq? (Again, I agree with the war, but from a Socratic standpoint, humor me)

The "freedom" being fought for in Iraq, by those who I've served with, and shortly will be back with, is VERY SIMPLE. The freedom to not worry about attacks happening daily as in Israel.  Yes we got hit in the eye during 9-11, but since then because of us folks in Green, Marpat, Blue, whatever rooting around in the Islamic Radicals backyard, they have stayed at home. Look at the recent "arrests" and "foiled attacks" that have happened, they have allmost all been homegrown.

Back on Topic,

The Main reason for the "anti-war" sentiment IMHO, is we have as a society become LAZY. We depend on the news, a teacher, or someone else to form our opinions, instead of reading, hearing, learning  BOTH sides. Thus when some "liberal" says this is true, "Conservitives"  say it's a lie, and so forth back an forth.

the idea of Kerry in the White House scared the crap outta me

For once I'd really enjoy seeing 2 GOOD canidates, who have a track record of sayin what they mean, doing what they say, and not bein full of bullhockey. I'd would be nice to actually have to choose a canidate (all levels of office) over their merrits, not over who scares me the least!

Got to love the Pinheads, they do do something good once in a while

off topic a lil bit but....

Anyone Tried out the Converse Desert Boots? Specifically the "Pursuit" models?

Back on topic, Combat boots provides the ankle support, overall foot protection, and traction,  that most shoes do not. Hiking boots offer some of this but not to the extent that a REALLY good pair of hunting boots, or most medicore Combat boots will. And if you drop the bank for a REALLY good pair they can last YEARS even in full service with propper care, I have several pair of the old black leather issue boots that have lasted almost 9 years of HEAVY use, both in military service, Airsoftin, and even huning. But and here is the hard part, all equipment clothing included needs propper maintance to last, work propperly, and protect you.

BTW the Bellview, with Vibram soles, desert boots they are issueing us Army troops now are EXCELLENT. They are like a pair of sneakers when your moving all day long,  but if your standing guard, or stuck on hard surfaces (ie Concrete)all day they do start to hurt after a while.  The Summer wieght are great as they let your feet breath, but the Winters are gortex lined and thus you MUST air them out at least daily after wearing them in anything but COLD weather else you'll start having foot rot problems.

Which Ruger .45 are you looking for? the P89 series (my brother has one, very nice fit/ feel, and shooting) are good reliable pistols as long as you maintain them properly, like any other firearm.  Accessories are kind of short when it comes to most of the Ruger Auto's, when compaired to either Glock's, 1911's, or some of the other police/ military issue side arms.

My personal taste for .45's runs in the 1911 family, and there are just TOO many good choices there.  But the best thing about the 1911 series parts are fairly interchangable, and a so-so pistol can always be customized into a tack drivin beast.

As for AR's, I have a bushmaster XM15 16" barrel, I know it is good out past 600m for accuracy (further than I can accurattly shoot open sight at least....)  As for reliablity I've shot hundreds of rounds thru it and had no problems I could blame on the rifle, Magazines are the common failure point of most AR's. An other problem is short barrel versions haveing short gas tubes, which can cause cyclic problems. Although I have heard that the piston conversion models don't experiance this problem, I haven't played with one yet..

With the AR series of rifles you can find just about anything you could want to hang on it, and once you have a lower reciever you can swap uppers out for different barrel lenghts or calibers with very little problems.

Fire_at_Will,
What kind of Mags are you using with your 1911? My LLamma had a simular problem, and some good mags solved it.  I personally would recommend some of the Chip McCormick mags, as that is what I've used with great success, but any of the good pistolsmith guys that make mags, such as Bear, Wilson, Ect, put out some decent mags. Buy one an try your pistol with it, if it works then ya know that was yer problem, if it don't then you are stuck with a pretty good mag (more mag's are always good), and have to move on in your truobleshooting process.

Polishing of the feed ramp helps with minor feed problems, but is mostly done for increased reliability, and it is best done by a pro, as it is REAL easy to mess up the angle of the dangle causing worse problems.

Lastly you could try a stronger recoil spring, but I doubt that is the problem, as if it was you would be having the same feed problems during hand cycling of the action. (of course that assumes that you are jerking the slide back VIOLENTLY and releasing it at the full stroke, to simulate a firing cycle)

hope this helps

Like I said before, the 2nd amendment applies to militias, and the people that make up the militia.

The Militia refered to is, as mentioned afore, all able bodied persons of adult age (back then it was men 17-45), now generally taken as any US citizen of legal age.

The National Guard takes it's roots from the "Militia's" of old but was really designed as a first responder to a need for soldiers(ie indian attacks, darn those redskin brothers of mine :P ) till the regular militia's could be formed. "The Patriot" is a good example of what I mean, the movie compresses it, but you see how Militia's of old were "activated," by a rider going from town to town, house to house looking for the able bodied. After the revolutionary war, many states (and the Federal Goverment) decided that they should keep some soldiers trained and offer training to the "Militia" so that they could rapidly field an army, instead of the months long process normally needed to gather, train, equip, and then deploy a normal "Militia." Their creation lives on today as the Army and Air National Guard, each controled and governed by the state they reside in, unless "federalized" by presidental order (as the boys in Iraq, an else where on Active Duty have been) This is why you see the National Guard being the called in for floods, and such in their own states typically, as Az guardsmen have no authority in CA, and vis versa.

So to summorize, the National Guard is actually the historic "Army Reserve" who is Citizens who have been trained to Active army standards but aren't actual (federal) military soldiers till activated. Where the Militia is all able bodied indivuals who could be "Drafted" if the draft was re-enacted.

Good case in point about the NG and our military (you might want to fill in the blanks) but there was a standoff back in the 60s where the NG and military had guns pointed at each other...I remember it was over race but cant recall the state

That was in Alabama if memory serves me correct, but I am certine it was one of the southern "segregated" states.  The State was ordered to end segregation at a school (college I believe) and was asked to use the National Guard to help enforce the desegragation, and prevent harm happening to the "black" students that would start attending. The Governor though was a "good ol boy" who used the Guard to keep the students from attending, and the Federal government was required to send Active duty troops from elsewhere in to handle the security. And from what I've heard it wasn't guns pointed at each other, but a VERY strong and heated argument over who's turf it was, and who was gonna stay, and both sides were armed, with weapons and live ammo. (this was before they got too scared and PC to issue live ammo to troops, like now days for riot control ie florida in the late 90's)

federal law has encouraged civilian ownership of military firearms since 1905.

Actually Mark there are records datin back further than that. There were laws in colonial times and right after the revolutionary war that REQUIRED able bodied men to have a fire arm in the house for possible call up as militia. In Conneticut there was actually legislation passed and last I heard still on the books that requires men between ages 17 and 35 to own a rifle (exact wording for the firearm I fail to remember) and if the Male can't afford one the STATE will supply one for them! Damn I'd like to have a weapon givin to me from the state :)

  Damn Fine Video, and brings it into perspective...

That said, one of the greatest things is the fact he truely DID NOT seem to be glory seeking, he did his interviews to announce his decision to quit pro football then pretty much dissapeared into the big green machine. For that I respect him as a fellow soldier, for the amount of money, and personal stardom he gave up I respect him as a true patriot.

As Others have said, Thanks for the link Christian!

I was installing Fire Sprinklers (used to be in the Road Sprinkler Fitters Union Local 669) in several of the buildings, The Paint booths in the Auto shop, and the Auto Shop in peticular impressed me a lot. I also was amazed by the Audio and Video Labs, lots of money spent on VERY NICE equipment, that you don't see at most colleges that teach simular courses, not to mention not at most auto shops, unless the mech's have personally bought it.

Well Most of my opinions have been beaten todeath already on here, and the thread is only a few hours old!

One of my biggest problems is that we ALL make judgements based on what we see here online before we actually meet in person. When anyone minor or leagal adult, posts like a JackArse it creates a negitive perception of the poster. Multible posts with lil or no subsitance, trying to gain post counts, typically leave bad tastes in mouthes of the "vets" of the board.  We have all done it, and may yet do it, but normally it is just a phase, that we hopefully mature outa.

I must say that MOST of the Minor Aged players I've met at both AA, non-AA, and USAS when I used to be proactive with Mark, normally were much more "Mature" in person than I had judged them by their online posts. If any of the minors on the forum need to learn anything (not for me to judge) is that EVERY post is what determines what we think of you, so post more than one line, more than a unitelligable ramble, and you'll get the respect ya want.

Off topic, Ya'll are takin this better than the previous "Minors" threads, GOOD JOB!  :D
