Reviews / Modify Quantum Piston
« on: November 18, 2012, 10:19:42 PM »
Hello everyone,
So I have done some looking through the AA threads and I have not found a review on the Modify Quantum piston. I will go through the build/material, user friendlyness, and the performance.

I purchased the Modify Quantum Piston from Adam of Tactical Airsoft Guns and Gear (InDrmz) AKA Shock & Awe in the AA community for $45 in late July.

NOTE: This product was tested and used extensively in a KWA 2GX gearbox. I am NOT responsible for any issues that may or may not arise if you use this product

Link to the the product: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_148_615&products_id=6854

Build and Material
The Build is very nice and surprisingly light for such a robust piston. The poly carbonate body lacks the mold lines/seams seen on many other pistons which is nice and provides a nice clean looking piston. The teeth are hardened steel, with a titanium coating. The coating is very durable, and does not show signs of wear after thousands of rounds. The rails are cut nicely and to spec and allow the lubricant to work its way around and on the rails giving the piston smooth movement. Although never seen by anyone else but the one putting the piston in the gearbox it is a very sexy looking piston...I am contemplating purchasing one just to put one by my pillow so I can wake up to its beauty every morning. After using all sorts of pistons such as G&G poly carbs, the JG's with steel teeth, CA's, and some Systema's in my opinion Modify was able to retain an incredible and very desirable amount of strength in structure of the piston while maintaining a weight much less than the competitors. And to top things off, Modify removed the second to last tooth of the piston, which is a big bonus in my opinion. I have no complaints about Modify's choice of material, and the appearance on this piston body.

User Friendlyness
There is not much to expand on as far as user friendlyness goes on piston bodies. Usually they work like a dream or they don't fit at all. In my KWA gearbox this piston fit like a dream and glided along my rails easily and smoothly. The teeth were just the right length and it took no modification to install this piston in my gearbox. As mentioned earlier the piston already has the second to last tooth removed which saves me a lot of time and stress when grinding on such a nice...and pricey object. The only thing I did have to do in order to make the piston mesh correctly raise the sector gear, through shimming to get the teeth meshing in the proper manner.  Again the Modify Piston escapes without any complaints.

Functionality/Preformance
I am blown away with the performance of the Quantum piston. I have cycled over 15,000 rounds through my gun since the piston was installed in July, and the piston still holds strong with only one slight wear mark on the third to last tooth! I am completely surprised. I am running a s130 spring, at 20BPS, (ran it at 27bps on a s120 for 4,000 rounds) the same configuration that destroyed the KWA stock piston, and the piston holds firm ready to take whatever I can throw at it.

Conclusion:

I have no complaints on this product. I was nervous about dropping $45 dollars on a piston, it was the first time buying a piston of the quality and price before. And I must say it is a "you get what you pay for" moment. This piston is ready for high ROF, and high FPS. I am not disappointed in anyway with the investment and I feel confident and I trust that when I get on the field my piston will be in tact and when I exit the field my piston will be in tact. I hope you found my review somewhat helpful. I am always open to tips and criticisms along with further questions on the topic.

Thanks,
Garrett

Real Firearms / SR40 or SR9?
« on: November 04, 2012, 10:10:18 PM »
Hello everyone, I am in the market for my first 'carry' handgun and I really like the Ruger SR series handguns. Mainly because they are reliable and I have had stove pipes out of various other model handguns and the Ruger SR seems more reliable and firm in my hands. So I am pretty set on the SR9 or 40. However I am stuck between the two. Both are the same or close to the same size and cosmetically they are identical. So it boils down to the round. I love the .40 , although more violent than most pistol rounds I am able to manage the gun effectively and efficiently. I also like the 9mm. It is easy to handle, and the ammo is cheap. What caliber do you guys suggest, or use? I am open to suggestions to other handgun models and calibers, the SR is just what I have grown to like.

BTW: I was looking into the .40 due to the higher stopping power. I also understand that if I have to use my handgun to stop a threat I will be dealing with a large amount of liability. By using the .40 or 9mm it will make my case should I go to court for having to stop a threat a lot better due to the fact that the police use these rounds extensively and the opposing force will not be able to accuse me of over power, or using a extraordinarily lethal caliber because the police use the same round.

Thanks!

I am offering tech work, I have been teching AEG's for the past 2 years and been very successful. I currently only service AEG's and bolt action rifles. I do not feel comfortable with GBBs. If the gearbox is out, I will reshim, clean, re-grease and remove the second to last tooth of the piston for $20. If the gearbox is in and needs removed I charge $25. If the gun is broken and the issue is unknown I charge $10 an hour until I find the issue and the price the repair according to the job. I do upgrades and I have a large inventory of replacement parts for V2, 3 and 6 gearboxes.

I ALSO adjust AoE, swiss cheese pistons, and offer any odds and ends that you can think of

I also build custom AEG's to any standard or function you would like for a very reasonable price. Price of gun= cost of parts+time involved in constructing the gun.

I do paint jobs. I am good at ACU patterns and I am experimenting with other patterns. Let me know if you would like pictures.

I am now offering hair trigger mods for VERSION 2 gearbox triggers. I will take your trigger and modify its shape and function to adjust the trigger pull to the customers liking. I charge $15 to mod the trigger if the gearbox is out, $20 if I have to remove the gearbox

I ALSO OFFER STIPPLING to any surface that is plastic. I do a nice job. Text me if you would like pictures. Price depends on the size of the project.

Let me know if you have any odd ball parts that you need or can't find elsewhere, usually I have them, however sometimes I don't but it can't hurt to ask

I am located in Prescott, but I ship, and I take the shipping and pay half. I.E. shipping is $17 dollars to ship AK, I charge $8:)

If you would like a picture please PM, Text or Call me, and I can get you one.

Troubleshooting / MOSFET Diode
« on: October 14, 2012, 02:59:37 PM »
Hello,

I am building a MOSFET unit that calls or a Transistor that is rated to 100W, a Resistor that is rated to 100 oHm, and one that is rated to 2.2 kohm. It also calls for a 10 A diode. I found all the materials EXCEPT the 10A  diode. I found 3A diode, with a 300A surge, but I do not know if that will work?  I don't want to go through all the work and then have the thing fry on me. Does anyone know or have the knowlege to enlighten me on this problem? Will the diode I have work?

Thanks

Gas Powered Guns / Mystery Mac 11
« on: September 20, 2012, 07:00:34 AM »
Hey everyone, I picked up an older gas Mac 11 the other day from a guy who didn't want to partake in airsoft anymore and it is shooting good but I need some parts. Now I've been searching for the brand all over the place and I cannot pin down who the manufacture is? Are there noticeable differences between the HFC, KWA/KSC Mac 11's? I chronographed it at 360 fps, and 22bps.

Thanks,
Garrett

AEG's / G and G motor issue
« on: September 13, 2012, 04:09:37 PM »
Hey Guys so I just revamped my KWA M4 and added a Modify Quantum Piston, a S110 Spring, added a G & G Power, High torque motor rated to a 160 spring. Well I am getting a good rate of fire...when it fires. I keep getting a locked gear box and I don't know whether it is the motor adjustment or what? If I am persistent enough the gearbox gets going again, but I am still a little puzzled. I keep trying motor heights and I keep running into little lock ups. My wiring is also hot. Any ideas?
