Local Games Listing/RSVP / Re: PSC Fighter Town day game March 12 2011

Me and a friend are coming, so +2.  I might be able to get a few others to tag along.

I'll be wearing flecktarn or OD camo, so put me down for green.  My friend will probably be wearing street clothes.

Madbull barrels are great in my experience.  Go for the 6.03mm version.

Cheap, durable.  If you shim them well, they will last a long time.

AEG's / Re: Wiring to rear

If you wanted to go the easy route, you could just get a wiring harness wired to the rear.  That's a pretty simple upgrade, you just open up the gearbox and swap out the old harness for the new one.

Harder route would be to buy some wiring and rewire the whole thing yourself.

the ares m4 is a pretty sweet deal, i believe it is also full metal and the fact that it is ares at $230 is actually a great deal.

I'd rather have the G&P Sopmod personally.  Only $20 more and it comes with a crane stock and flip up rear sight.  G&P gears can be iffy, but you could just install a set of XYT/JG gears and the rest of the gun should be solid.  I really like the G&P M120 motor, gives a great ROF and pretty decent trigger response.

AEG's / Re: Best out of the box AK
« on: January 15, 2011, 08:09:46 PM »
The Real Sword AKs are highly praised. Golgo13 wrote a review on one over on ASF, you might check it out.  (if you are looking to buy)  Never seen one myself.

CYMA AKs can be tanks and perform pretty well stock, but I would imagine high end AKs perform better and are more reliable.  I'd say for the price, the newer CYMA AKs are hard to beat, but if one has a large budget, they are definitely better options.

I have a box of MAG M4 mids.  They feed excellently once you lube and break them in.  Out of the box they didn't feed very well for me.

Did the FTK come with an aluminum piston head?  If so, I would use a poly carb one and some sorbo padding on the cylinder head just to be safe.

I think I'll be coming down to this one too.  Had a great time at the last skirmish.

Get a new bucking (Systemas are good), nub (SCS nub is the best. H nubs are also pretty good), and a 6.03mm tightbore. (Madbull or Prometheus)  You're better off replacing the hop up bucking and nub compared to just the barrel.

That's really all I would do to it for a while.  A reshim/regrease would be a good idea.  Adding deans would give you a slight boost in ROF and trigger response and is an inexpensive upgrade.

Don't start cracking open the gearbox if you don't have to.

As everyone else said, upgrade conservatively. Why do you feel you need a new piston, motor, etc right out of the box?

Put a bucking and spacer in if it isn't good enough for you AFTER a game with the thing. If you still need a touch more accuracy, grab a nice barrel.

After that, unless you HAVE TO HAVE more fps, more rps, etc etc... which you probably don't... don't worry about anything until it breaks.

Yeah, that's what I meant by it's a good idea.  I'm not sure if E1 does any better of a job shimming/greasing compared to the original brand (Dboys), but I do know that most clones come with a horrible shim and grease job.  If the OP is new to gearbox work then I don't suggest it.

Best upgrades are: BBs (I can't stress enough how much bb quality affects the accuracy), hop up bucking+nub, and a barrel.  Start with the first two and if you aren't satisfied, get a new barrel.

Bioshot bbs are the best I've tried out of G&G, KSC, TSD, Goldenball, AE and BB King)  You can get them at Bioshot.com.  If you use G&G or Goldenball, then those are fine.  KSCs are decent.  TSDs should be avoided, they work and won't jam, but they give poor performance.  BB King and Goldenball are about second in performance. Bioshots are definitely the best in my experience.

Try out my new mids.
