AEG's / Re: Removing the flash hider on a CA M249 Mk-II barrel
« on: February 16, 2010, 01:22:21 AM »
I once took a long, hard look at mine and decided there was a really good chance it's just a one-piece barrel, so I never tried to separate them.  If you find it to be otherwise, please post and let me know!

Edit: BTW, the A&K barrels DO have a removable flash hider that's glued in place; I hope we're not confusing the two.

Does anyone have any tips to building a custom battery? I'd like to give it a try.
I used to build battery packs every day working for Batteries Plus.  What are you looking to do in particular?

That sounds about as pointless as repeatedly punching yourself in the face, and then asking other people to do the same.

I'm not saying you're trying to push a personal agenda... well, not anymore than anyone else. I realize that you two both have quite a bit of experience of your own, albeit markedly different from my own. I just thought my side of the story should be heard too. Sorry to take up all your time on this proverbial dead horse.
No worries, dude; I respect your views.  Thanks for being mature about it!   :D

My appoligy i ment to say a discharger. I have a novac smart tray and it has a Individual cell monitoring circuitry which will discharge each cell and it will equalize all your cells and will tell you which cells are bad then you can just replace the bad ones .The only problem some people will have is that you have to disasseble and rebuild your battery pack every time but if you have the time its well worth it you can buy your battery cells in bulk and save alot of money
Oh okay, you have a battery matcher.  Very cool!  Those things are great (and expensive!).

Will a place like Batteries Plus be able to test it and replace bad cells or should I just get a new one?
I used to be an employee of Batteries Plus.  They can test the pack for you and tell you if it's bad, but they won't replace the individual cells.  Two reasons: 1. They don't carry those cells 2. because it's not an effective solution to the problem.  Replacing individual cells in a pack that has already been in regular use can cause a lot more problems than it solves.  You should just replace the entire pack.
Quote from: "mp5 fan2"
Does running a low battery cause any issues?  I do not want to damage anything.
Nope.  If the gun cycles correctly, the gun's fine, and if the pack is already screwed up, using it won't screw it up any more.
Quote from: "thunter"
there are battery chargers out there that will cycle all the cells separately and will tell you  if you have a bad cell as far as o know once a cell goes bad it is done for . and for replacing the cell if you are good at soldering go down to Franks hobby house on 32st and cactus you can buy all the parts to build your own
The cells are connected in series; it's physically impossible to cycle them separate from each other.  Battery analyzers only test the pack as a whole and search for common problems that indicate that a cell has gone bad.  To test each cell you will have to disassemble the pack.  And soldering your cells together is a very sloppy method of building a pack.  Cells should be connected by nickel tabbing spot-welded to the terminals.  You should always avoid soldering directly to cells if possible.
Quote from: "Whiskey11"
Intellect's cells smaller than Sub C's are paticularly natorious for what is called voltage droop.  Basically, the pack is incapable of supplying the necessary amperage and as a result the voltage drops significantly as the battery pack strains to supply the motor with it's full request of power.
Actually, what you're describing is a bad battery.  :)  "Voltage droop" usually describes intentional loss of voltage by use of resistors.  ALL batteries have their voltage drop when a load is applied to them, but a battery that's still good maintains its voltage above its nominal point.  But you are correct in saying that Intellect cells suck hardcore.  Batteries Plus stopped carrying them because they were overpriced and consistently came back bad.

Hope that all helps.

Then again, maybe I just got a really nice one? Or you both got some out of a bad batch?
Ha ha ha, no King Arms has consistently disappointed both of us for at least a good 4 years straight now, particularly their after market parts. It's not so much that they don't know how to manufacture as it is that they don't know how to measure.  Nothing they make seems to fit on anything, including their own guns.  This still remains prevalent to this day with customers' parts I see.  I think their guns are alright, but far from ideal when it comes to integrity of design.

If you want to defend them, it's cool.  We're just telling you what we know from experience; you don't have to take our word on it.  However, it seems kind of silly to assume that we're trying to veer you away from specific companies just because we like to push personal agendas.  Ha ha, then again I think Xavier can be considered an unofficial salesman for ICS, or something, so maybe you shouldn't trust him too much.  ;)

Are you talking about a 7.4V or an 11.1V?  With a 7.4 it'll do fine.  With an 11.1 you'll strip a gear, guaranteed.  Take it from a long time Marui fanboy.

::EDIT:: By the way, I'm done clogging up this forum. Sorry if I was off topic or anything. If you want to flame me about this stuff, or ask me questions or whatnot, PM me. :D   I'm not trying to be a dick to anyone, just putting my 2 cents in, even if other people think my money is worthless. :P
Alright dude, don't get too defensive; no one is flaming you. All we're saying is that this topic is bound to be simply filled with "I like this gun" and "I like that gun" posts, without any real illustration as to what can be effectively considered a top-notch quality product.  The fact that cheap Chinese copy guns have already been predominantly in mention completely suggests this.

Xavier and I have had differing opinions with airsoft manufacturers for years, but both of us agree: there's no such thing as a "best of the best."
Topic fail!!  :D

I would like to know what ur opinion is on the radio control grade gease and the airsoft grade grease what would u say is the difference because a tube of radio control hobby grease is way cheaper then airsoft grease..
Yea dude, there is no difference.  Companies just try to capitalize on people's ignorance, that's all.  At JungleToy I used RC car lubricants and at Gearbox we still do.  Lithium grease on the gears and silicon on the air seals, and it's been doing the trick for years.
Be careful when shopping for gear greases that you don't see "mineral spirits" listed anywhere.  That's the same as petroleum oil.  Doesn't matter if it's 'only on the gears'; it will get spattered all over the gearbox.  Most greases you can tell if it's petrol free by just smelling it.
Hope that helps.

Not going to lie, I'm slightly offended by the very presence of this thread.
This will NEVER generate pertinent information for determining the "best overall AEG."  Here's why:

-People will always make absolute statements based only on singular personal experiences, not a compilation of diversified experiences.  "This gun is the best because MINE did this....."
-Almost always people will have a biased opinions toward the guns that they personally own, because it is their own investment. No one wants to say "Every gun I own sucks."
-Fact: The brand that is owned by the highest percentage of people will receive the most references, good or bad.  (That's basis statistics 101 stuff.)
-Companies like E1 sell low-cost AEG's; it is a low-risk investment. A vast majority of people involved with this "hobby" will have made low-risk investments, and often ONLY low-risk investments. They will have personal experiences with MAYBE 1 or 2 other manufacturers.
-Finally: A gun's "lack of failure" does NOT prove its "superiority of quality."  Just because it didn't strip a gear after 'x' amount of uses doesn't make it the best performing, highest quality gun on the field.  That's just nonsense.

This is a topic beyond subjectiveness.  I have my own experiences, just like everyone else.
Personally, I think this thread is completely pointless.

If you don't believe me, with all your vast knowledge, I can certainly refer you to some people who have pushed little plastic balls passed the limits of what most people dream of, Clarence Lai the Co founder of Redwolf Airsoft and Airsoft Surgeon, Or Mike Of Righthook Fabrication, or Ben Satori of Satori industries, Troy Kim of 2roy. I doubt any of these people will tell you to lube your hopup rubber on the inside, nor the barrel.
If you plan to have a rebuttle to this post, please atleast provide me with some data or theory behind your statements. Shellackin' lube inside your hopup and barrel just won't cut it.
Quote from: "busta_cap"
Nope, I don't need to meet someone to know what they have done and how they did it. But since you asked, I have spoken to him on a handful of occasions on these very things and observed him speaking of the such...
I really could care what YOU think of all people, because you can't seem to get off your high horse for two seconds to see anything outside your blinders.
You want theory?  You want data?  How about this: I took barrels with no lubrication, then applied lubrication, and I saw an increase in performance, time and time and time again.

It's obvious what's going on here: You don't have the experience yourself, so you throw around big names, thinking that people will look up to you and assume you know what you're talking about.  If anyone here is lifting himself up on a high horse right now, dude, it's not Vince, it's you.

I really do try very, very hard to be nice to people on these forums and not criticize, but come on man, grow up.

Ummmm... the ONLY place lube should be is INSIDE YOUR GEARBOX
You want your hopup unit, nub, bucking, barrel, nozzle all to be completely dry. Take your gun back down and take the inner barrel and bucking and wash them in warm water with a tiny bit of dawn, let them air dry. Put it all back together.
Sorry to bust your cap, busta_cap, but not so.  I've worked as an airsoft technician for a living for 4 years, and every barrel and hop-up rubber needs to be lightly lubricated with 100% silicon grease.  Three reasons:
-Rubber bucking will dry and crack if it is not properly maintained with a lubricant
-Air nozzle needs to have a good seal with the hop up rubber, which isn't possible without lubrication
-BBs traveling down a smooth barrel need as little friction as possible to maintain consistency and muzzle velocity, so the barrel needs lubrication as well.

Sorry dude, you're wrong.  :D
