WASP Sling
« on: August 26, 2006, 03:43:42 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with this kind of single point sling?  I like how it functions, but question how it fastens to the PALS on a MOLLE carrier (I don't want to rip the stitching on my vest.)

What kind of a vest do you have? I think you should be fine.

It attaches just like it shows

if your question is actually one of how well it attaches and what issues might surround that type of attachment, that's slightly different.  Yes, I am a grammar Nazi.

Anyway, I would never attach my sling to PALS webbing like they show in that picture unless there was no other alternative.  I would use a "D" ring on the vest.  If your vest doesn't have one, well, there you are.  One of the downsides to this type of sling (one that requires a vest platform to use).

A SpecOps Wolf Hook will do the same thing for slightly cheaper (and you get the vest-platform portion and the weapon-connector).

This picture is exactly what I'm talking about.

In the upper left-hand corner of the picture, you can see the stress made by the weight of the rifle.

Anyway, I'm trying to find a short 1 point to fit on a CIRAS with a quick disconnect.  I'm sure there are better choices out there!

I would go for the franken sling.

You can also run some paracord from your weapon, through one of the shoulders, and down into the the vest disconnect.

When I had a CIRAS, I did that for a bit.  You can kind of see it in this photo (The paracord is brown) -

When I had a RAV, I also used paracord.

And also a hook setup that a friend made.

At the time, they all seemed nice, but with a side opening vest, I'd go with the sling I designed that was inspired by the Blue Force Gear Vest Sling -

It spreads the weight equally among your shoulders.

I use a separate two point sling now.

Firehead, Raith...Thanks!  That's what I've been looking for!  I was wondering how that SOC-C-RVS attached to the CIRAS.

The BFG CIRAS sling attaches to the CIRAS' release system.

Back on topic about the WASP sling, Having used similar PALS attaching sling points before, its not something I would get.  The "hook setup" pictured on my RAV was used on my CIRAS for a while, and tore the PALS a bit.  Eagle offered to fix it, but I never sent it in.

This may well be the lamest option, but it works great for me with my G36C.  Take a two point sling, (like the ones that come with the cheap guns from JT, only higher quality) clip both ends of it to the rear sling hook on the gun, throw it over your neck.  Simple, cheap, effective. (For me, at least) :D  It makes it easy to keep the gun out of they way, because you can just throw it behind your back, and it's still easy to get to the gun.
