well no, he said that they (FORD) woudl take off the head and retap itinstall teh helicoils and than have to retime it cause they took the head off, adn tehre are two cams

Well, you left a lot of details out there.

Yeah, that can all get expensive. Tearing down an engine and doing anything related to the timing is a big pain.

Is your engine an interference type engine? Your pistons might be kind of mashed up.

Had we listened to my original post on your "spark plug problem" topic, when the problem started with the "clicking that went away when I pushed on the plug wire" syndrome, you would not be having these problems.
The timing on a mitsubishi 4G63 2.0 is complex. 2 cams, balance shaft, and crankshaft all have to be properly aligned or the motor will run like total crap, if at all.
Obviously you have no idea what you are dealing with, nothing personal. Take it to a real mechanic. Pay the money to do it right, or it could cost you the whole motor. 8)

Yeah, that sucks.  Mine just occasionally seems to decide to wait to start the oil pump.

Hey, I have an '02 Eclipse GT I'm looking to sell though if you are interested.  LOL.

actaully i DID listen.  i replaced the plugs and wires.  the engine ligth promptly went off, and it has been running fine for a few days.

i'm off to get a helicoil and install it today after lots of discussions with some club members on the ins and outs of how to install it.

Just remember, grease is your friend. When you drill and tap the hole for the coil, use a light grease or heavy oil on the drill/tap  to keep most of the shavings from going into your motor. Contrary to popular belief, the shavings wont simply blow out the exhaust. The shavings could get between the exhaust valves and seats, creating loss of compression, causing loss of power. Good luck.......

Make sure you ask for the spark plug hole repair kit. Last I checked they had the tap, coils, and install tool. All you should have to buy is the special sized drill bit. The kit cost around 130 last time I bought one.

so after trying to reinstall another plug i noticed the threads were all gone on the engine. i found a store that sells helicoils, but cant go until Monday (house mate returns from duty tonight).

THAN i notice that the threads aren't in the valve cover but waaaay down inside the engine. grr. I'm not in the mood, nor do i have the experience to pull the valve cover, pull the head and re-thread the plug holes.

anyone here ever done this sorta thing? i do NOT have the cash to bring it to a mechanic and have him charge me 90 bucks an hour to troubleshoot than fix it. nor do i have the time to leave it sit in my garage as i have more job interviews this week.

any suggestions, I'm at the end of my rope here....
