Sniper rig suggestions
« on: June 17, 2010, 03:05:41 PM »
I'm looking into purchasing a rig for a sniping position, I'm using a L96 type gun and probably a pistol as a side arm.
I want it to be able to hold around 4 mags, binoculars, and then just have a random utility pouch also.
Looking into several different options I found that a belt+harness would probably work out well or maybe just a simple chest rig but am really looking for suggestions. Also i don't want to spend much over $150 for the whole rig.

battlebelt with either a dropleg for the pistol or just mount a holster to that belt. You could easily hold 4 mags single-stacked, utility pouch, radio pouch, holster, and pistol mags on one. I would recommend adding a camelbak to the setup though. Hydration is important.

No clue.
you might be able to fit them into double-stack sized pistol mag pouches... I'm not sure just how big they are, so i couldn't be certain... I'm sure there is someone on here who knows though.

M14 pouches will work well. Should be able to hold 2 mags per pouch if theyre like the ones I have.

I looked at that post but it's more towards a AR style DMR not a bolt action sniper rifle

DUDE!!! I was going to say the same thing. Very light and silent. Just do some homework on what works for you. Gear is simple but you want the placement right so you don't have to move much to reload, being a sniper and all. Also you might want to look into a mag pouch that mounts to a stock. L96 being a bullpup rifle has a thick stock so you can actually mount it on your foregrip.

I agree with the battlebelt suggestion. Mine is very versatile, but once all the components were assembled into a rig (belt, harness, camelback, pouches, dropleg platforms) it ended up costing more than my plate carrier, so they aren't cheap.
