Stoner Mk23 LMG and Car15... new Vietnam Guns from G&P
« on: August 22, 2010, 06:17:56 AM »
I hope this is mostly new news to everyone, i found these searching G&Ps site the other day... All 3 guns are listed under coming soon and in progress...

The Mk23 Lmg might be old news to some of you guys, but i have my reasons for posting it. When first announced the rifle was in two versions. A full model, and a "conversion kit" of some sort... what weapon it was for i have no idea, it could have been a m16/m4, maybe a different squad weapon. Why Ive dug it up is because i thought it had surely been mothballed... However since they had updated their site, adding more Vietnam weapons, and only removing the "conversion kit" mk23 from their line up, one could only hope that the gun is just still "in progress" and some what time consuming in the RD department. I would like to think we'd see it soon. My only fear is the cost... The largest weapons from G&P are pretty pricey, and this one could be the most expensive. I would definitely sacrifice a weapon to be able to afford it if i had to. If it does come out, ill be the happiest person around here for months... and that's a lot of happy for me:)

The car 15 is great. It is an ACTUAL car15 too. Alot of times the m16/m4 family names get lost in all the different "codes"... I personally prefer the xm177e2 series for Vietnam. However i think this is the first car15 since the TM model half a decade ago or more. It will be nice to get some more m16a1 bodies on the market, especially all metal ones. There appears to maybe be a Gas model as well, but its hard to say... guessing from the curved mag (their gas mags are curved, and right above the car in the product list) and the existence of other gas m16 rifles in their product line the second model is gas.

I never liked the look of the car 15s... Often times in real life the dinky stock would break. SOF operators in Nam pretty much hated it... It failed to do most of the jobs required of it, which lead to the XM177e1/2 and the development of the m4. The short triangular handguard is kinda a joke too.

The mk 23 isnt really known for being pretty... its more of an ugly duckling... but its a Navy Seal weapon so i guess thats fitting? It faired far better in Vietnam and was more widely used and appreciated... It would be fitted with a drum, or large box magazine... Ive seen a few with stocks chopped and even a Round drum mag affixed to the grip feeding into the large box mag for extra ammo. If you think this ones ugly, you should have seen that one... Id like to see a blued version, instead of the current raw steal ghetto chrome look.
