Questions on How To Upgrade an M4?
« on: March 07, 2011, 04:19:29 PM »
I just have a few questions for all you M4 experts...

What is the largest/best battery I can put in my gun?

What kind of spring should I use if I want to increase the FPS at which my gun shoots?

What is the best/ most accurate sight for an M4?

How many BB's does a low/mid/high cap mag hold?

Where can I get a decent silencer for a decent price?

Does anybody do cheap, yet good paint jobs?

That's all for now, thanks for any answers in advance!

You can put a car battery on your gun if you want. If you mean reliably or with any sort of durability... you left out all the information about your gun, so nobody would be able to help you in the first place. Largest and best aren't the same thing, by the way.

What kind of spring should I use if I want to increase the FPS at which my gun shoots?
What kind of fps are you at, what kind of gun, how high of fps are you looking for

What is the best/ most accurate sight for an M4?
Best is personal preference. Accuracy of sights isn't really important in Airsoft... any iron-sights will be more accurate than any airsoft gun.

How many BB's does a low/mid/high cap mag hold?
It varies, depending on gun type, mag type, brand, and sizing selection

Where can I get a decent silencer for a decent price?
If you mean a mock suppressor, ehobbyasia

Does anybody do cheap, yet good paint jobs?
Yes

BreechUnClear does good paintjobs.

Other than that, I would advise throwing away the DPMS and buying something worth upgrading.

I also do cheap paintjobs... but I'm way up in Prescott/Prescott Valley area.

I would have to agree with the starting with a new gun if you're going into upgrading. I've never had to have to do much to them, but they didn't take well to the replacement parts, let alone upgrades. I wouldn't go much over a 9.6 mini nimh on them... although I'm sure they'll run much, much higher batteries and such for a limited time.

m4/m16 type mid/low caps can hold between 20 and 160 rounds. Hicaps will generally hold between 120 and 450 rounds. There are m4 style box-mags that hold in excess of 5000 rounds, however.

Remember the paint job on the AK I brought to FA on Sunday? BreechUnClear did that, and he'll custom paint your gun for the right price too. I'm sure axis does a great job as well, but he's rather far away. :P
If you want him to do some custom painting for you Scrat, let me know and I'll let him know.

He could always do it himself.

Lol, that's why I put it in as a disclaimer every time I say that I can/will do something. :/  I'm almost always about 115 miles out of the way.

Best way in my opinion to upgrade your M4(I like mine as a DMR), start with the inner barrel, 6.03 for starters, 6.01s require proper care, but 6.03s are just as good and cheaper. Add a suitable strong bucking, scs spacer, extend the outer barrel, either with a  suppressor, or outer barrel and suppressor. To determine what inner barrel length you'd prefer measure from the hop up to the end of your barrel, convert the inches into millimeters, google it and it will pop up. You can add accessories and change the hop up if the stock version breaks for whatever reason, but start with those things if you want to see a change in your accuracy for cheap. ROF mods, will require new motor, battery, reinforced parts, if not stock already. Deans are high performance connectors increasing your efficiency and possibly a higher power output and ROF. You have to buy deans connectors for your gun, and you have to find, or make a connector so you can charge your battery. But totally worth it in the end. Lipos also do the trick, bust cost for a new charger and the possibility of burning your house down must be factored in.
