Few questions
« on: December 20, 2007, 06:55:15 PM »
Depending on te holidays, I'll be making a few additions to my Airsoft gear and I just wanted a few opinions.

CA8-2
I purchased this gun a few months back for a game and I love it. However, the gun itself fires a bit low on FPS and I want to upgrade it.
Is it worth it to upgrade the motor in a gun like this?
Furthurmore, I just dug the thing out and noticed there is a hairline fracture in the plastic bipod. Is this something that I can get replaced? (Doubt I have anything to say about an exchange or return this long after purchase.)
And last, but not least, is the high-cap drum worth paying the money for it? Last I checked, the mags from the CA G-36 do not work, but if they do, it will be a cheaper alternative. Is a drum preferable to a high-cap mag?

BDUs
Where's the best place to get decent uniform for an inexpensive price? I do have one, but I'd like to upgrade to something a bit newer.

Safety goggles/glasses
I'm going in for a new prescription for my normal glasses first of the year and I was curious about prescription safety glasses. Is it worth it to get glasses with my prescription? What's a good brand of frames to start with?

2-way radios
What's a good brand/model for a reasonable price?

Thanks for your time, folks. Look forward to some answers.

Happy holidays,
-Anthony, Phoenix

i wear glasses my self and the only thing i have to say about that is it would be better to just fine some goggles that will fit over them because each time you need a new prescription you need new safety glasses.

1. I fail to understand how upgrading the motor will affect your fps.

What are you calling "a bit low on fps?"   To increase FPS, generally you add a slightly stronger spring. But there are other things you can do as well depending on what your looking for.

2. Hi cap mag vs drum, asking the wrong guy here. I'd say neither but thats just me.

3. BDu's, what kind of BDU's?  Tiger stripe, woodland, DCU, marpat etc.  I know US Surplus has a variety of new BDU's reasonably priced.  You may also check out Allied Surplus.  BDU.com is another source for a greater selection.  Costs about $60-65 for a new set.

4. Eye pro, I not sure but I think it's hard to find goggles that you can wear glasses underneath. Some Paint ball goggles I know can work depending on your frames.  Other option is the inserts, I know others have them and they can expand on that. Or wear contacts.

5. Radio's.  Any radio will work. Peferably one that has FRMS and GMRS channels with sub channels. And for everyone's sake on your team, perferably has the ablility to disable the bleep chime made when keying the mike.  You can spend anywhere from $20 upwards to $150+ on a radio/communication system. I'd recommend going to games and ask to look at what other guys are using for com systems to give you some ideas.

Still a bit of a newb here :P
I talked to the kind folks at APD and they quoted me on a spring for a fair price.

edit: Alright, thanks for the input so far, everyone.

Got a new Spring for it so that should give me what I want.

The kind folks at APD informed me that as long as I don't go to hard on it, it should be fine.

Was in to APD today and it turns out that there are G-36 mags that fit so no worries on this bit :D

Multicam=Beast

It works very well in almost any kind of terrain with the exception of extremely humid forests/swamps/jungles/Snowy and other such areas that consist of mostly colors not present in the pattern.

if you get ESS goggles, you can get prescription inserts, thats what i use with the ESS Striker Turbo fan goggles and i have never had as issue with fogging since then.

Ditto What Tastyfish said, I wear scrip glasses and battled this for quite some time.  The ESS line lets you go from full goggles to thier Sunglass type with just the popping in of the Scrip insert.  I think the insert costs in the Nieghborhood of 30 bucks and my Optomitrist made the scrip to fit them for 40 bucks.

Good luck,
Charlie

As far as vision correction and safety...  I wear contacts so any saftey glasses or goggles work for me, I prefer lightweight shop glasses with a little tint myself.  My teammate beanns2 wears ESS turbo fans with the RX inserts in them, I think they ran about $200 with the perscription but he swears by them and they are legal for ANY event since they are full seal (safty glasses are not allowed at some venues).

Uniforms are a tough one, if you have a team your looking to play with go with what the team uniform is, if they have one.  If you play solo and forsee that being the case for some time to come, go with what you like.  I started out with 6 color desert because it was cheap but ended up with Desert MARPAT because thats what our team chose as a uniform I'm happy with it because its easy to find and replace but there are much better patterns for stealth out there depending on your play venue.

I'm a fan of multicam and find that it blends great with all the venues I've played at in AZ so far, I just picked up a set in the ACU style cut from bdu.com for like $60 shipped for use when helping out AMSOG and for the odd day I run solo or free for all.

Good luck!
