There's another fire out near Crown King, but it shouldn't make trouble for us Saturday.

We might get called out to drop on that fire if it doesn't die down a bit.

I'm going out of town tomorrow so I'll miss the flight if they do, but if you see some Blackhawks dropping water on the news - their ours.
Yep they're out there, Christian, just saw them on the news. Go Guard!

I saw one fly over my girls house while I was in the pool tonight.  No BAMBI bucket, so it was probably just checkin' the scene.

Man, I wish I was going to be in town this weekend!  Flying at night, with NODs, dropping water on wildfires is pretty neat stuff.  (but a trip to BUD/S land ain't so bad, either). ;)

NODs near a fire? Wouldn't that cuase some serious flareups? Not an expert, but my gen2s get some flareups looking at a small campfire...imagine what that would do on a MUCH larger scale. Looking at some embers would be cool though :).

Is he going to be as close as you were to a camp fire? Consider smoke a factor too...Its not like hes cutting line and its a few yards away.

Just so long as it isn't a full blown forest fire.  The heat coming off of those would play hell with your lift.

We had one last night that I could see from my backyard on Mummy Mountain. It was pretty freaking cool looking, and probably everyone in a 2 mile radius was clogging up all roads to the mountain.

I don't know how reliable this information is, or really that it matters but I was staying at a hotel(Homestead is the worst hotel in the history of time) in Las Vegas last weekend and I met a 16 year old from Topoc, we were talking about music etc. and he mentioned that he and his buddies had started the Cave Creek Fire. Just a little info about how irresponsible and ignorant people can be = /

There is a fire 3 miles from my house right now. At one time it was proablly 1.5miles, close to where it started. It was raining ash at work as I pulled into the yard.  Should be contained shortly. Right now its burning large ceder trees and they are going to let it burn through the ceders in the river bed until the fire gets to smaller brush. This way they can control it better, right now its way too hot in those ceders.  Also, I have never seen so many crop dusters flying around at one time!  Looks like WWI with a bunch of bi-planes flying around. My guess is that they are filling up with water to help dampen the vegitation near the fire line.  As soon as it burns through those trees and hits grass land and the fire line, it should be easy to contain. All this has sure filled up the valley with smoke.

There's a new firefighting aircraft based on a large cropduster (AG Truck, Pawnee?).. I'm 100+ miles East of you and the smoke is forming a solid reddish-brown line as far across the Northern horizon as I can see.

Hope this damn thing stops before it hits the Rim.
