« on: September 07, 2006, 07:01:51 PM »
Video was done by Penn and Teller, 30minutes long, but funny to watch.

They did that along time ago. It's part of a series called "Penn and Teller BULLSHIT!".

It's a pretty good series and alot of episodes are on google. They attack religion, obesity, ESP, Hypnosis, Love, Prostitution, Dog Talkers, Death Penality and so on. It's a really good show and they research EVERYTHING.

Oh yea don't drink bottled water or recycle newspaper.

Is this in reference/rebuttal to Bowling for Columbine? If it is, I suggest that everyone rewatch that movie because Moore's primary message, to me was that Americans are ruled by fear. I did not feel that he was pushing gun control nearly as much as it was hyped.

It's not, READ MY POST AND STOP ASSUMING.

The primary goal of the episode is that of American's constitutional right to Bear arms. They could care less about Moore.

Actually, I'm pretty sure (no wait... positive) that Moore's movie was about our gun-obsessed culture and the American inability to balance the 2nd amendment with the 5th commandment (which applies everywhere, religious or not).

He went after the NRA for simply being heartless in a particular situation, and went after Kmart, which markets hunting, for selling bullets that were clearly not made for hunting.

Disagree with the view, but never the facts.

So you're saying that you can't hunt with handguns??  WOW am I ever in trouble, I've used handguns to hunt everything from Prarie Dogs to Deer.  I use the same ammo for hunting as I do for target shooting, so I can't see the difference.  If you're talking armor piercing then you would have a point (its illegal to hunt with armor piercing rounds).

I do find it ironic thought that Rosie O. is so outspoken against guns, but was a spokesperson for KMart who at the time was one of the number one sellers of guns... guess money will bend ones values.

Either way, I think Moore is full of sh*t the only good news is the control is failing, and more states are allowing CCW's because they see gun control doesn't work.

our gun-obsessed culture

Sometimes your gun is your only means of self defense.  It takes what, about 5 minutes for police to respond?  That's a loooonng time to be fighting off some burgler hell-bent on killing you and taking your stuff.

The 2nd amendment was envisioned as a check against the tyrannies of government.  I believe that it is the single most important right we have.  Without it, the constitution is nothing more than a piece of paper.  The only reason that we are still a country ruled "by the people and for the people" is because we are guaranteed the right to defend oureselves and, if need be, overthrow a government that has overstepped its bounds.  It is not an obsession, but rather a last resort.

I hate it that people call me "obsessed" with guns because I regularly practice and know how to defend myself should the need arise.  Most people either give no thought to the possibility of having to fight for their lives, or are content to trust in the government to protect them.

Oh, and what does "thou shalt honor your mother and father" have to do with guns?  If you mean the 6th commandment "thou shalt not kill" that would make a little more sense.  But still, is it wrong to kill in fear of your own life, or to protect the life of an innocent?  I read that verse as "thou shalt not murder".

As for the NRA, what exactly made them "heartless" to that situation?  What does K-Mart have to do with Columbine?  How exactly do you judge what bullets are "designed" for hunting?

Gee, I don't know, how about hosting a rally in Littleton less than a week after the Columbine shootings. Sniperwolf's post was dead on, and Cartographer, you should see the movie, it is actually very interesting.
