Bowling for Columbine -- School shootings
« on: September 11, 2006, 05:16:03 PM »
- Yeah, it's on. I've only seen it in pieces until now. A lot of the documentary is good, but Moore seems to focus an awful lot on sensationalizing (what makes a handgun different from a nuke? Gee...)

I never knew that three inches was the minimum length for a handgun barrel. I guess all of the anti-gun politicians wont be able to register their penises.

I never listen to what he says, he's obviously spitting out propaganda.

Look up the definition of propaganda and then see if you picked the best word.

Facts cannot be considered propoganda.  And while I'm not saying that Moore only states facts, I am saying that a large amount of that documentary is about facts.

Still doesn't matter, I wouldn't listen to anything he says, he's obviously biased. All he does is manipulate data, anyone can spin statistics to make it look like they're right.

F*** Micheal Moore. Team America was made by the south park people and they even tore him a new one. He's a POS, uses every fact he needs to make a one sided arguement and completely ignores or discredits the other side.

Oh and that lady whos protesting Bush about her son's death in Iraq pisses me off too. I think its about time for her to STFU- lots of peoples sons have died in Iraq...

Just saying....

Everyone is biased, ane everyone has their own opinions.  Far fethced or not.

YOU may not like Michael Moore, but some do.  Does that make them wrong?  Aren't they just the exact opposite of hardcore 2nd amendement followers?  Different ends of the spectrum.  To me, both are fucking retarded.  You can't be so far one way, because you're just tipping the scale, and throwing everything out of wack.

yea that, i don't get its not his fault for sending that kid, he VOLUNTEERED not like he was drafted and forced to fight there in Iraq, he signed the paper knowing that he could be sent to war......i mean i do understand her being upset, but her argument isn't the best.

Facts can be used as propaganda, it all depends on how they are used.

Yes, and we need to blame it on Slayer, Manson, and the Goo Goo Dolls.  Because no one is accountable for their own actions, we have to blame it on something.  Those damn goo goo dolls!

I thought the shooter was just plain schizo. Why does the media feel the need to blame someone or something? I think I've had enough of their "sensationalizing" of the news, news is news, not extreme entertainment.

The biggest problem with Bowling for Columbine is that Michael Moore presented it as a true documentary.  He got his start doing "mockumentaries", and is still doing them - he just presents them as factual.  Throughout the whole thing he used his usual methods of splicing together pieces of speeches to make them say something completely different, filming an interview and then refilming his portion with new questions later, and various other methods of putting two different things together.  If it were presented as satire or something that would be one thing, but he presents it as fact and the Hollywood set followed right along, leading many people to believe that it actually is at least somewhat accurate.

It goes far beyond just being biased - you would be hard pressed to find anything presented by the movie that is really true.  Twisting facts is bad enough, but making things up and then presenting them as fact should be repulsive no matter which side of the fence you are on.
