That is why we dont rush pillboxes(except on D-day). Believe me, I dont think those boys wanted to either, but they did a hell of a job. That is why they invented flanking manuevers, gixser :D

The ak 47 packs a bit more of a wollop than the old m16, compared to the ak the m16 is just a baby theres a 30 year difference. For one thing kalashnikov never had recall thousands of guns because the barrel was rusting and corroding in harsh climates. when malfunctions cause deathand casualties, that seems like a lose lose to me.nearly every commie block country made and ak so all their parts are interchangeable due to warsaw pact doctrine. the m16 is a nice gun now, but its being phased out.  it took them too long to create a worthy rifle and they pissed away the guns lifetime with fixes and recalls. the us is the only maker of the m16 making it hard to fing parts for in an emergency in the field. the ak shit, just grab one up and your ready to roll. i like the m16 alot but i still think the ak will be around alot longer than it will.

The M16 is a far superior weapon.  The reason the AK is reliable is because its parts are very loosely put together, which allows them to function with tons of crap inside that would seize most any other weapon.  This leads to its innacuracy. They have horrible sights, little room for customization, and have horrible ergonmics.  The M16 isnt being phased out, because there hasnt been anything the equal what it can do.  The XM8 is close, but it is NOT better than the M16.  Take the Israeli Army for example.  They have THOUSANDS of Aks, Galils, and M16s in their armory.  What do they use? The M16.  It is the best combat rifle used today.  Nothing else currently being used comes close.  The AK is used so widely because it is CHEAP.  Some insurgent didnt sit there and debate on whether he wanted to use a FAMAS, G3, M16, or AK, the AK is used because they are everywhere and CHEAP.

but with it being reliable, it becomes superior in many ways.  as long as it shoots... well, thats all most of the people using them today care about anyways.

considering most errorists are funded with oil money i think they could have quite the options of weapons, the reson the isralies use the m16 is because were giving them to them at discout prices, they buy our stuff we stay friendly allies ready to defend them from any arab threat. if i had to pick one gun to bet my life on on reliabilty and hard hitting quality it would be the ak, you dont seem to understand. the ak 47 was made for simple conscripts from russia to use, its beauty is in its simplicity. yeah there cheap but id rather pay less for something that will work.. and work... and work and takes common ammo than paying three times as much for a complex, high maintenance plasticky rifle. if you dont clean the m16 constantly it will sieze up and youll be left with an expensive stick with a bayonet lug on the battle field, while somalie bob keeps chattering away at you with a rifle that hasnt been cleaned since it came from the ishmaz factory.

If you are going to be depending a rifle for your life, wouldnt you clean it evey chance you get anyway?  The M16 will work if you treat it as something that you are putting your life in its hands.  Even if I was issued an AK I would clean it everyday, there is no reason to push the limits of ANY guys reliability.  I have only ever had 1 jam while firing and M16 and it was an A1 that had dirt in the mag.  I have put thousands of rounds through M16s.

Now, since any sane soldier cleans his weapon any chance that he gets, what advantages does the AK have then?  None.  Have you ever shot one? The sights are horrible, the grip is crap, and the recoil prevents accurate fully automatic fire.

"If you define "better" on only the basis of it's ability to function after abuse then it is a better weapons system. "

part of being a good gun is working constanly what good is an expensive gun to a man if he died because the bolt jammed and he was shot due to not getting the enemy before he got him.

And when cleaned regularly, like ANY one would do when depending on a rifle that wasnt and idiot, the M16 outperforms the AK. No comparison.

Actually I would not be so sure about recalls and the AK. I am sure it had growing pains. Most of it's time in service was in the soviet union and they were not exactly known for admitting mistakes, especially when it came to their arms. Hell, they didn't say a peep about Chernobyl until it was already on the news in eurpoe. They thrived on presenting an image of superiority both to the world, and to their own people, thus mistakes, accidents, and the realization that their equipment was sub standard were covered up for a long time.

Actualy the israelis have access to and can afford whatever rifle they want, and choose the M16 and Galil.

Your comment about the M16s maintenance requirements are born of legends, and completely wrong. You will forgive me my young friend if I keep my own counsel on this one, not to be rude but you are 16 and I have been in multiple gunfights with the M16, and in most cases, against the AK47. The M16 DOES NOT require constant cleaning, in viet nam it may have but it can go all day in the worst conditions now, without fail.

The M16, is why one of ours, is worth 20 of anyone elses in the battlefield. It is why a 5 man forward observer team in kuwait was able to fend off a company of iraqi's. It is why in somalia we inflicted casualties at a rate of about 20-1 before accounting for airpower. (more like 200-1 ultimately)

I can appreciate it's simplicity, I can't appreciate the fact that when arment with one in open terrain against an M16 user, your goose is cooked since you will be dead before you even have your opponent in range.

Look what you are fighting. In somalia, we were fighting number, and untrained militia. Iraq has never been known for military strength either. If they had any good training, and better equipment(gear, and tanks, along with airpower) they might have been able to inflict more casualties.
