Accessories & Gear / Re: Showin off that sexy gear....
« on: November 12, 2008, 10:45:51 PM »
This is the "Showing off that sexy gear" thread, not the "give us a list of your gear" thread.

I do have some questions for you, though:

1.) Why TWO IFAK pouches? What do you need 2 first aid kits for? If you are using them for utility, get canteen pouches, those are great utility pouches.
2.) Why a PASGT helmet? Get an ACH replica or something.
3.) Why get tan SAW pouches? All your other gear is in ACU, why are you going to deviate from that?

General Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Question for National Guardsmen

Its all good dude, you can't offend me very easily, so feel free to speak your mind, I'm willing to hear you out. As far as I'm concerned this is a friendly conversation, and we are just pointing out our views. Nobody is getting butthurt, so everything is good.

Now, I'm not disagreeing that Marines are better than Army, either. Due to modern warfare, the "every man is a rifleman" thing applies all accross the board, though yes, Marine pogues are probably better than Army pogues. I've seen Marine pogues in action, not only were their room clearing skills crap, but one of them even ND'd his rifle running from the house! Not to say this hasn't happened with Army, but I can tell you that an infantryman of either branch wouldn't do that. This isn't really an 'argument' of branch against branch, its more of a "this is why we call you a pogue" thing. I KNOW that you guys have names for the infantry types too, this is just what we call you.

I'm just throwing this out there, but don't let a "training excercise" fool you as to your capability in real combat. Shit, I've killed 2 platoons of infantry in a window with a 240, and me and my battlebuddy kept another platoon at bay using a rifle and a SAW indoors. It does feel good to say you've done that though.

We have gone off topic, and Twitchy, if you'd like to discuss this further, we can take it to PM.

Infantry is a good MOS to get, if you can find the slots. They are out there, and I'm not 100% sure, but I think they have slots in the 1/158th INF open again, so hit up a recruiter. I'm not sure what kind of training you will be executing, but I feel that being an MP, and being a police officer really don't have that much correlation. The tasks that you perform are way differentMaybe someone can enlighten me, but don't MPs have to get a security clearance reguardless of rank? In the infantry, to be an e-6 and higher you need a security clearance.

...there is always the Marine reserve.....

I'd rather be a national guard infantryman, than a marine reserve pogue.

and Doc, you're right, being infantry is the bonus.

first off every Marine is a rifleman first(which is more than i can say for most soldiers) second there are Grunts at my unit.  So you could be a reserve grunt...if he wants to step it up and join the Corps that is.

Every man/woman is a rifleman goes for both Army and Marines. I would venture to say, not having experience with Marines, that non-infantry types don't get much range time, as they are too busy doing their job. So they passed BRM(the the USMC equivalent) in basic training, big fucking whoop. Shooting is a perishable skill, if they don't consistently fire their weapon, they won't be able to shoot for shit when things go down.. There isn't really anything wrong with being a pogue, the infantry isn't everyone's calling.

Arizona doesn't have a Marine infantry unit, so not being a pogue is out of the question for that. Unless they hold an 0300 slot in the unit those grunt you are referring to probably don't have the PMOS of 0300 series, they might have had it at one point, they don't now. Former 0300/11Bs are the one exception to the pogue rule.

Sandy, I would still call them pogues. Their basic training isn't really THAT different from Army basic, they just teach you different things because they are required to survive(swimming, and maybe a few other things). Their knowledge of weapon systems, knowledge of infantry tactics, and advanced shooting capabilities will be far below my nasty girl(thats what active duty component calls national guard) ass.

Unless you are INFANTRY you are a pogue. Thats the bottom line.

To answer your questions:

Before you go to basic training, you will attend drill at an RSP. There they will prepare you for basic and AIT. YOu will also drill there if there is a wait period between AIT and Basic. National Guard attends the same training as active duty personnel for training.

Due to Federal Law, the company you work for cannot fire you, only temporarily replace you, while you are training or deployed.

What ranking system? Its the army. If you attended JROTC for at least 2 years, or complete the boyscouts as an Eagle Scout, you will recieve E-3. Other than that, you will start as an E-1 Private. After completing basic, you will receive E-2

Signing bonuses work just like the army. I'm not sure how it works, as I enlisted without a bonus.

There should be no issues with you returning it to our store, as long as you have your reciept. In fact, I would recommend it, if it isn't too far away for you.

Its the gas version, I don't think tanaka makes spring sniper rifles. It retails, the rifle alone, for around 500 bucks.

No trades. Buyer pays shipping costs. If you buy it before Tuesday, or early enough on Tuesday, I'll have it out that day.

Buy the M700 from me before, or on tuesday, and get 20% off my asking price. That's $380. Find a better deal, you will not.

I've got a bushy. I like it, it likes me. It fires the dirty ammo that I run through it with few problems. Only thing I don't like about it is the non-milspec buffer tube, which isn't a problem, I just haven't had time to replace it. Good gun, and you can pick them up for fairly cheap(I paid 8bills for mine).

Informational Links / Re: Local FFL Firearms Dealer!!!
« on: October 08, 2008, 01:21:16 AM »
Someone from California bought a gun from an Arizona dealer? Isn't that illegal? I thought Arizona FFLs can't accept drivers licenses from California residents(therefore they can't fill out 4473s), due to the difference in gun laws. Maybe its just retail stores that don't do that(Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse, ect).
