Link: http://www.icsbb.com/eicsbb/page3.asp?bignum=8&picid=790

Additional Information:
ICS's plans are to also release a Sig 552, possibly at the same time depending on manufacturer.  If the Sig's do well they will be releasing a Sig 556, followed by a 550.  At this time they have no firm plans to implement a burst mode (mechanical or electrical) on any of the models.

Further down the line is a revision of their MP5 line upgraded with split gearboxes.  They are attempting to retail full compatibility with the M4 Split gearboxes, but the MP5 gearbox is still in development.  It would appear ICS is starting to migrate their entire product line to split gearboxes.

I am also trying to find out the MSRP for these models.  For updates information check out my thread on ASR.  I will have a full review of the CXP.08 following the Shot Show for those that are interested.

I mean come on, this is ridiculous.  Once was enough, but in addition to posting useless crap in other topics he's making duplicate threads.  Really he's only had 2 posts of any use at all.

Obvious mis-use problems aside, you have to give him credit for creativity.  It would definitely be good for a couple of laughs.

Real Firearms / Got any deals on ACOG's?
« on: November 30, 2007, 04:07:12 PM »
You guys know of any places that run deals on ACOG's?  I'm looking for the TA31RCO-M4CP.  I found it for $1,233 with a LaRue QD mount at skdtac.com, which right now seems like my best bet.  If any of you guys know of a place to get it cheaper, let me know.

General Off-Topic Discussion / Holiday Gaming List
« on: November 05, 2007, 08:28:17 PM »
Before you ask, no there is no real point to this, other than boredom and my curiosity.

Well, it's that time of year where software companies frantically try to finish their games in time for Christmas.  The consumer often chooses only a couple out of the many games being released.  I'm primarily a strategy fan, so this season is rather disappointing for me.

Games I plan on picking up:
SupCom: Forged Alliances - This brings the game to what it should have been originally.  The beta makes me cry tears of happiness.
Call of Duty 4 - Could this finally be a suitable replacement for BF2? Demo indicates yes.
GalCiv II: Twilight of the Arnor - They continue to make a fantastic game even better.

Games I DON'T plan on picking up:
Empire Earth III - They took a decent game and ripped off it's balls in the meanest possible way.
Gears of War -  Sorry Xbox fanboys, this was not anything special enough to warrant my buying it.
Unreal Tournament 3 - Just not my cup of tea.
Universe At War - 3 weeks into the Beta and I have yet to be able to log a single minute of playing time.  No thanks.

Possible impulse buys:
NFS: Pro Street - I have never regretted a purchase more than the purchase of the last two Need For Speeds.  I swore I would never buy one again.  However the demo gives me the slightest hope for this game.
Alan Wake - If I'm really bored I might pick this up just for giggles.
Soldier of Fortune: Payback - I miss SoFII sometimes.  If this pays heritage, I might pick it up.
Crysis - I wasn't originally going to get this, but the beta changed my mind.  However, I see myself getting bored quickly with this, so I may pass.

What is going to get your hard earned cash this year?

Real Firearms / Taurus Millennium
« on: October 11, 2007, 10:33:16 AM »
A co-worker of mine has decided to unload all of his gun related items since he hasn't touched them since his divorce.  One of the items he is getting rid of is a Taurus Millennium .45.  He only wants $200 for it.  It's about 3 years old but it has never been fired.

Now, I'm not expecting much since it's only a $300 gun new.  But it's $200, I figure it has to be worth that at least.  Any body here used one or better yet owned one?  What do you think of them?  Worth $200 just for the sake of picking up another toy?

General Off-Topic Discussion / How "fun" is your workplace?
« on: September 27, 2007, 03:06:39 PM »
It's interesting to see the differences in companies and their perspective on having fun while at work.  For example, back when I worked at Fry's despite being right by the software department and having to listen to Shakira or other crap all day long we weren't allowed to play our own music in the department because it might offend customers?  WTF?

At my previous employer we had cube wars (Nerf balls, bean bags, etc).  This was frowned upon by most of upper management, so we just did it when they weren't around.  Plus the one VP on our floor was usually the person who started it.  But, they were picky about you surfing the web, setting your own wallpaper, etc.

On the other hand at my current job I thought they were playing a joke on me (because I'm one of only 2 gamers in the company) when they told me we were getting an Xbox.  I was wrong.  I just finished hooking up our company purchased XBox 360 Elite to our 50" HP 1080p LCD TV.  We are also getting a bumper pool table and a "putting green" in our break room.  I spent my lunch laying on a leather couch at work playing Rainbow 6: Vegas.  Sweet.

How fun (or not) is your workplace?

Reviews / Classic Army SA58 Review
« on: September 24, 2007, 02:16:47 PM »
(Warning several of the pictures below do suck.  I will try to take some better ones when I have some natural light to use)

History

The FN FAL (Fusil Automatique Leger - Light Automatic Rifle) is one of the most famous and widespread military rifle designs of the previous century. Developed by Fabrique Nationale (Belgium), it was used by some 70 or even more countries, and was manufactured in at least 10 countries. At the present time the service days of the most FAL rifles are gone, but it is still used in some parts of the world.  The first FN FAL was produced in 1953 and the first version was adopted in 1955 by Canada.  Belgium, Britain, and Austria followed over the next couple of years.  FN refused to license the gun to Germany who in turn looked at the Spanish CETME rifle from which the famous H&K G3 was created.  The G3 was the main competitor to the FN FAL.

The FN FAL was made in numerous different versions with different barrels and accessories.  There are, however, four basic configurations of FAL rifle: FAL 50.00, or simply FAL, with fixed buttstock and standard barrel; FAL 50.63 or FAL "Para", with folding skeleton butt and short barrel; FAL 50.64 with folding skeleton butt of "Para" model and standard length barrel; and the FAL 50.41, also known as FAL Hbar or FALO - a heavy barreled model which was intended primary as a light support weapon.

There are only two countries still producing the FAL today.  Brazil and, the subject of this review, the DS Arms SA-58.  The rifle in question is a (very) short barreled standard model SA-58 with the molded hand guards.

The replica
The first thing you notice when looking at the box is the relatively dull (color wise) front.  The box is light gray, with a white outline of the gun and black & white lettering with the exception of the full color DSA logo.  Upon opening the box you are greeted with pretty standard packaging.  Styrofoam, manual, catalog, gun, hicap.  No battery or other accessories are included.

If you are not familiar with the SA58/FAL, the first thing you notice when looking at the gun is it's size.  You might think it was a large gun from the pictures you see, but it is not.  With the carbine front and and slim stock this is a pretty maneuverable gun.  The gun is very comfortable to hold with it's SAW grip and hand guards.    It's certainly a relief from the M16 grip many are used to.

The selector is metal and easy to operate with your thumb while holding the gun.  The selector clicks firmly into place with little or no wobble (unlike some HK style selectors).

As you can see, it has a serial number (I would assume non-unique giving the fact this is #12) stamped right above the selector.  Further up, we have the markings SA58 MADE IN USA.

The charging handle is large and feels pretty sturdy, but is still a concern as I will discuss later.

The opposite side of the gun features a pair of full DSA trades stating DSAinc LK BARRINGTON, IL.  Once on the reciever, and a second set on the included scope mount.

Pulling back the charging handle locks the bolt cover back, allowing you to adjust the hopup.  This appear to be pretty standard stuff.

The front of the gun features a standard, removable, birdcage flash hider and a 360 degree rotating sling mount.  I have replaced my birdcage with a Madbull Noveske Fire Pig which looks quite fitting if you ask me.

The stock is a proprietary stock with no externally visible means of attachment.  The battery compartment is accessed by sliding down the rubber butt and pulling it off.  A large 8.4v is a tight squeeze, no chance of a large 9.6v without modifications.

The gun includes a 20a fuse.  That will need to be upgraded...

The bottom of the SAW grip features a large hex screw and the words "Classic Army".

Performance
The gun has not personally been chrono'd yet (I hope to do this later this week).  However the ASGI testers state it chrono'd at 290fps. This concerns me slightly as I would expect higher.  I hooked up a 8.4v 2600mah Ni-Cd battery and dry fired it a few times.  The gun sounds to be very well shimmed and cycled quite smoothly.  The gun is also quieter than I expected.  We will see what this means when I get the chance to field it.

The mags feel quite sturdy and look well finished.  They slide smoothly into the magwell and lock firmly into place.  The mag release will take a little getting used to as it is a little abnormal as far as mag releases go.  Next to the mag release is the bolt release.  The bolt lock is VERY handy for adjusting the hopup and when release closes with a nice smack.  It's not the same as a real steel, but still much more pleasing then your standard AEG bolt cover.

Overall
The fit & finish of the gun is excellent.  Everything feels completely solid with no wobbles or creaks.  The gun sounds like this trend continues on with the internals.

However, I have a couple of concerns.  First off, as stated above, ASGI states the gun chrono'd at 290fps which sounds low to me.  It's listed at 300-310fps by ASGI on the site.  However, this is a VERY short barreled rifle so then again 290fps isn't that bad.  My biggest concern however is the charging handle.

As I stated, the charging handle feels solid and sturdy.  However, it IS plastic and the spring on the bolt cover is QUITE strong.  The manual specifically states to return the charging handle to the front position before releasing the bolt.  This tells me they know it's a weak point.  If this breaks, it will make it very hard to adjust your hopup.

My only major complaint right now is the mags.  You have a choice of a highcap or 6 highcaps.  Standards, or at least Midcaps would REALLY be appreciated.  The only external accessory available for it right now is a RIS which is available from an EXTREMELY limited selection of retailers.

Initial Verdict
With the exception of a couple of minor concerns, the gun appears to have an above average build quality and finish both externally and internally.  That combined with the fact that this is one of the most uncommon guns in airsoft is making me really look forward to a good skirmish with it.  However, at this time, the mag selections and the price of the gun combined with a lack of accessories means this will probably stay an uncommon gun for quite some time.

General Off-Topic Discussion / Crysis
« on: September 23, 2007, 11:06:25 PM »
Anybody else on here in the beta?  What are your impressions so far?

Mine, so far:

People are retardedly durable.  I mean, if they are running from you they will be out of range before you kill them.  Another target survived a combined total of 5 'nades before dieing.

Vehicles often behave "oddly".  A guy drove his gauss tank full speed into an bunker and it resulted in the tank being launched a good 50 feet into the air or more.

Weapon range is too low.  The sniper rifle makes a better CQB weapon.

Game does not seem to handle network latency well (or at all sometimes).  This was evidenced by a man running past me so fast I literally couldn't turn fast enough to even keep him in sight.

Minimap seems pretty pointless at times.

Several optics have glitches.

Learning curve (regarding objectives, etc) is pretty steep.

Anti-Aliasing and DX10 features would be nice.

Gameplay strikes me as a cross between Battlefield and Rainbow 6.  I like silencers.

I guess they decided Sadaam's hidden treasure was more believable than a wealth Nigerian?  I don't know about you, but this just rubs me the wrong way.  I would personally like to hunt down the people who think this up and beat them down.  How about you?

Plus, admittedly I never served, but I don't think the backpacks you are issued is large enough to fit $60M+ into...

General Off-Topic Discussion / Remitting Funds?
« on: August 13, 2007, 10:48:26 PM »
Ok, between airsofting and other hobbies I have done a substantial amount of overseas transactions.  However, all of them have been done via either PayPal, Money Order, or Visa.  I have never had somebody ask me to remit funds using a bank to bank transfer.  For that matter, I'm not even 100% sure of the process.

What I am getting at is, does this sound like the guy is trying to pull a fast one on me or could this honestly just be easier for him.  He already has a business account, so he wants me to take the funds to a local branch and deposit it there.

I don't know of anybody who has done business with him (which is why I am questioning the process), but there is a reasonable amount of evidence suggesting it's on the up and up (IE: WhoIs for his domain matches the info he provided, no complaints against him that I could find, and most importantly pictures proving he does have access to what he says he does).

If it's the worse case, I am out roughly $250.  Certainly not the end of the world, but it's not like I like just throwing money out the window either.  What do you guys think?

General Off-Topic Discussion / You know your office sucks when....

You get to work from home the rest of the day because it is raining IN the office.  We have a floor and a half above us even.

We heard water hitting our ceiling tiles around 1p.  By 2p one cube looked like a hose was on in the ceiling.  By 2:45, the two adjacent cubes looked the same.  By 3:30p we had run out of trashcan/wastebaskets and decided to give up and go home.

Well it appears we are going to be seeing an Escort SCAR-L coming soon using CA's body.  I'm hoping the price will be inline with the MP-5, but we will see.
