BB Measurements
« on: March 27, 2007, 11:24:21 AM »
I used a Browne & Sharpe Micrometer that measures to the ten thousandths place "0.0000"  Measurement was taken by inserting BB into micrometer and then torquing tensioner until the measurement stabilized.  Three measurements were taken on each BB, rotating the BB to a new spot at least 90 degrees away from the previous measurement to ensure that no "flattening" of the BB was hampering the true measurement.

Well showing that certian bbs are larger on average means that there is less air escaping around them so more energy is imparted to them resulting in higher muzzel velocities. Which I think hold consistent with testimonies from chrono stations at national events.

The data also shows that Both excel and Kbs vary in size in the tenthousandths place whereas the infinity bbs vary in the thousandths place making them appear far less precicely made.

Great job Raith!

If possible, could we add a few more BB's to the list?  I would like to see Phx .28's, Digicon .38's, and SGM's.

Either way, great work.

I'm sure if you get those types of BBs to Raith, he'd add them.

I only had 3 types of BBs.  If you have 5 of each to give me, I'll measure them and post the results.

I would like to know how AE .25 BB's vary in weight and size if you could do that.

And a lot of you probably already know about these reviews, but just in case:

http://www.airsoftmechanics.com/reviews.php?aid=15
http://www.airsoftmechanics.com/reviews.php?aid=16

It also only really cover .2 BB's, but whatever, it's something for people who use .2's.

I've mostly been using AE's of late and those test pretty much backup my feelings about them.  They have been very consistent BB's at a reasonable price.  I've been buying 3 bag specials or Bulk from ASGI.

I'll measure any BBs anyone gives me.  Don't go out of your way to get some, though.
