Accessories & Gear / Communication Headset with Helmet
« on: January 16, 2013, 11:29:01 AM »
My current setup for head-wear is an IBH style helmet, Desert Locust Goggles, and a shemagh (sometimes pulled up to the goggles depending on the situation. And I am looking for a decent Comm headset without shelling out a few hundred dollars.

I have two options in mind, the first being a Bravo headset, which by the design looks like it will fit with the helmet quite nicely. Link here http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=522_346&products_id=6452

A question regarding that headset, from the images it is difficult to tell whether there is one earpiece or two, does anyone know for certain?

The second option (which would be preferable) is a midland radio throat mike, but are they of decent quality? I've known people who have owned throat mikes, but they had difficulty with voice clarity to the point they became unusable. I am thinking this model in particular http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=522_346&products_id=10740

if anyone has any experience or alternatives that worked for them, its all appreciated, I am prepping to go to LC in May.

AEG's / Magic Box?
« on: April 26, 2012, 11:14:52 AM »
Now I've never seen this company before a few days ago, and their stuff seems pretty solid. ASGI had a top tech competition that compared the two here. Airsoft GI - Top Tech Challenge Compression Test with JG M4A1 Magic Box vs Systema/Modify Parts

Looks like the new kid on the block beat out systema and modify. Their piston heads have two o-rings. I was eventually going to replace some of the stock compression parts with modify or systema, anybody else had experience or know of this company? It seems like  a relatively new company, or maybe I'm just now hearing about it.

(then again the tech with the Magic Box parts was more experienced)

AEG's / Color matching
« on: March 05, 2012, 01:55:15 PM »
Now i'm looking to replace the receiver of my G4 Dune Knight. Now there's a half a dozen different tans (sand, tan, Dark Earth etc). I bought tan magazines from MAG and they were closer to an OD, so before I go buying parts I want to get them to at least be a very close match. It does match the color of the Dark Earth Magpul magazines. Anyone know what this would equate to? Or is there any way to find out? (i've learned not to trust pictures online)

Gas Powered Guns / AT4 project
« on: February 18, 2012, 07:11:36 PM »
Some of you recall the combustion style launcher I finished drawing up a few weeks ago. Only to realize I would not be able to use it, and make the BATF unhappy. So as a result I came up with this.
http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k600/nemisissy/AT4%20Project/at4.jpg

Its a completely Inline compression system using a 24oz CO2 bottle. Its going to generally do the same thing that you would expect, whatever is loaded inside the shell will leave the barrell going about 450 fps depending on what I want to pressurize the chamber to. The outer shell will be dressed up to look as similar to an AT4 as possible.

Any questions or suggestions are welcome. I will be taking and posting pictures of its construction as it goes along, which will probably begin next week.

Oh and I stumbled across someone who was trying to make a nerf rocket that would spray bb's on impact, but never got out of the basic planning stage. I am perfectly aware I would probably not be allowed to use this, but its worth building at least one. http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k600/nemisissy/AT4%20Project/prototyperocket1.jpg

Gas Powered Guns / Airsoft RPG project
« on: February 07, 2012, 03:49:47 PM »
This seems like the best place to post this (technically its gas powered). I bet most of you have seen this video on youtube Paintball Rocket Launcher

The air compression parts are expensive (a palmers reg goes for 70 dollars) so i'm going to try for something similar in design, which i took off this website http://www.pukindogspaintball.com/cannons/BECC.htm. The difference is i'm going to build it combustion style, in self contained shells with butane at one end with the ignition contacts, and my projectile at the other. This modification I got off of Jackssmirkingrevenge on spudfiles, and should give me about 400 fps.

AEG's / Optics
« on: January 26, 2012, 04:50:04 PM »
I have a NCStar electro red/green reticle that I love, but it took about 3 bb's to the glass and its impossible to see through. I'm looking to replace it with an ACOG style or a EOTech replica. Problem is theres tons of em, any reccomendations? Price is not an object (aside from a real EOTech or Trijicon). Preferably in Dark Earth.

Gas Powered Guns / Question on tank adaptors
« on: October 27, 2011, 09:41:59 PM »
I'm just finishing up plans to build an inline vortex bbmg, its all coming along great except for one question. I've found some paintball tanks for dirt cheap, and I want to use those as the air source, they are perfect for what I am looking for.

But since I have no experience with this sort of thing I need a little help.
What kind of adapter/fitting will I need? It needs to eventually connect to an air hose that will run to the blowgun I am using as a trigger.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated

Gas Powered Guns / Improving gas efficiency?
« on: October 06, 2011, 04:43:47 PM »
Now I have a KJW m9 GBB and I love the thing to death. My problem is that I can't quite finish out a magazine on a single charge. I usually have 3-5 rounds left in the magazine. I'm running propane through it and there is no leaks in the magazine. But is there a way to improve the efficiency? Or is it just because its a cheapo? (Its all plastic, couldn't pass up the deal though).

Accessories & Gear / Purchasing New Camo
« on: July 19, 2011, 02:52:49 PM »
I'm just now able to start getting involved in the sponsored events and the ones you guys put on. Picking up from other threads I gather that I need a set of woodland and desert for most events. Now can I use something other than the old style woodland and desert? (flora, flecktarn, ACU, etc). Or is it generally required to stick with the basics?

AEG's / G&G F2000
« on: July 15, 2011, 12:35:31 PM »
I'm shopping around for a new AEG and i'm considering the G&G F2000, one of the reasons is I love the bullpup look and feel and its rather unique. My question is does anyone really know if its even possible to work on the gearbox? It looks like it would be a cast iron b*****d to take down if you even could. If anyone has any personal experience regarding this any input is appreciated.

General Airsoft Discussion / Legal issues involving orange tips
« on: July 14, 2011, 07:42:43 AM »
Now I was doing some research because of a conversation between some of my teammates on the federal requirements for orange tips. Now I have even heard some people assert that the orange tip is not even a federal requirement and this is what I found from secondhand sources. 6mm (0.24 in) orange tips are required when imported to the united states, but are not required when in the field. Personally I was always under the impression that the painting or removal of the orange tip was illegal, but we all did it anyways. I am just looking for more clarification on this subject, always helps to know about the laws that apply.

AEG's / Custom paint job
« on: July 10, 2011, 09:01:16 PM »
I'm looking to paint an m16, scope, and bipod, ive read dozens of threads and guides on this subject and I understand the subject rather well. But having no experience with paint whatsoever and know of no one around in the tri-city area I trust with my rifle, does gearbox or anyone else down in the valley do a good job?

Informational Links / DMR construction
« on: July 10, 2011, 01:29:59 PM »
while doing a search on modification and upgrades of a DMR i ran across this guide, admittedly his techniques are rather unorthodox and are not for the inexperienced, but i thought it would be something to consider.

General Airsoft Discussion / Battery pouch on a crane stock
« on: June 06, 2011, 11:35:58 AM »
I'm considering purchasing an G4-A1 Hard w/ Noveske 10" rail blowback AEG from ASGI. Here is the link. http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.p ... ts_id=6440

My current AEG is a solid-stock MP5 that has a 9.8v batt. I know that you can purchase a battery pouch for a standard sliding stock that allows you to hold larger batteries. I would prefer to keep using the battery I already own instead of the crane stock battery. My question is would the battery pouch fit on the crane stock or will I just have to suck it up and get a new battery or a full stock?

edit- I mistakenly posted this in general, I meant to post it in gear, my mistake

Reviews / Review: Full Metal Vector Arms MK5A4 RAS
« on: March 26, 2010, 03:59:35 PM »
When i was looking to buy my second quality AEG ( my first being a cybergun thompson) i was looking for something with a little originality but preforms well and is balanced. Although i love the m4,m16, m14 etc, i wanted something a little more compact. I could not afford anything like the STAR SA-80, or any decent AUG's or FAMAS i decided to pick an MP5. At airsoft GI this version of the MP5 comes at merely $185, and performs well out of the box. I chose the solid stock version so i could use large-type batteries.

Starting from the front.
(pics coming soon)
Flash-hider/front sight tower
on top was the typical removable orange, awkward looking flash-hider (which was glued on, took forever to get off, had to break it) and underneath were standard counterclockwise threads with a thread cover ( painted that orange instead) and the front sight-tower and gas-block were solid.

RAS
Standard tri-rails extending to just in front of the magwell, made from a solid piece of steel, the charging handle is another piece of steel but the gas-block is not. There was included a scope mount that wraps down along the side of the rifle and attaches to the back of the rails, which i put a red/green dot on, which sits perfectly above the sight-towers. The only bad point in this region is the hop-up was faulty when it was sent to me ( factory defect) and i have to replace it.

upper receiver
Not much to say, completely metal , including the magwell and rear sight-tower. Rotating sight-tower could be more sturdy, but its not something really to complain about.

lower receiver
This is plastic, with a metal fire selector (?), and a metal mag-well and mag-release. But the rest of the lower was plastic.

stock
Stock is plastic, with a removable butt (but?)-plate for battery storage. The battery storage could be larger, fits the standard battery just fine, but any larger batteries requires a pit  of wire bending.

Performance and other points of interest
I cannot give you a very accurate description of its range because of the broken hop-up, but even without one i have been able to compete with CA, G&G, A&K, and many other brands, and blows just about every other Echo1 or JG out of the water. WIth the standard battery the ROF is decent, but when i put a new 9.6v 4300 mah in it turns into a bb hose,i have blown through 100 round mid-caps in less than 20 seconds if i decide to waste some ammo ( which i try to restrain myself). If u do want to attach a barrel extension and place an m4 barrel inside you will need to machine out the inside of the flash hider. The end of the inner barrel rests up against the inside of a lip on the flash hider.

Note: if anyone has any suggestions or comments on how well this review is done, i would be appreciative
