Grip Pod
« on: June 22, 2006, 02:41:22 PM »
Does anyone have one of these?  I played with it for a bit at AZ Tactical and really liked it, but $180 seemed steep. The guy said it could hold someones body weight on top of the bi-pod no problem.

there are replica's in both plastic and aluminum. it's a nifty item. check the overseas retailers like WGC and Redwolf.

Frankly, I really don't like those. They seem kind of ridiculous because if you are in a prone position with any kind of foregrip you already have a pretty solid aim and the marginal benefit of the small rests is not worth the expense.

Most, if not all rail mounted foregrips will not extend past the magazine.

I understand that the bottom of the foregrip will not touch the ground, but if you are in a prone position holding the foregrip, your elbow/arm will probably be resting on the ground. At least, that above situation is the most comfortable for me when using the vertical foregrip.

so you shoot a lot with a bipod and in the prone unsupported position? because i do and i have found out that using the GRIP POD is pretty much cheating in the real world. it's like having that "lame" bipod you are afraid to install because "bipods are gay" a secret. press the little button and voila! you have supported weapon with a much more stable firing platform. also, shooting from the prone unsupported with a bilateral grip is probably one of the most unstable AND uncomfortable positions you could put yourself in. your weak arm stresses from extension and your strong arm stresses from flexion.

oh, you knew this already because you shoot from the supported and unsupported and bilateral grip positions often.....

for the record, on real steel, this is good for one shot at range. then you have to check your support and re-zero. still a cool little gadget though.

The Grip Pod is a way to give a standard rifleman the ability to shoot from a supported postion, more compactly and with less weight than a "real" bipod.

Nothing more, nothing less.

IMO, your SDM or SPR user is not going to go to one of these.  I would be interested in seeing that I am wrong.

Wouldn't that be good for a support gunner?
