I joined the Army.
« on: July 23, 2006, 11:00:28 AM »
No shit.

Four year active.
I enlisted as a 98C or Signals Intelligence Analyst. Yes, that's MI... laugh all you want.

I leave August 23rd. I spend 9 weeks at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri for boot.  I then spend 27 weeks and a day at Goodfellow AFB, Texas for AIT. That means I probably won't be back until June '07. Amazing huh? But don't fret! I may be stationed at Ft. Huachuca afterwards so I could still attend some games...

Lets hope all goes well. Oh, and you guys should expect to see a post in the Classifieds section containing some sexy shit owned by me shortly, so keep your eyes and your wallets out.

Good luck and be safe.  I hope it works out for you.  I'd do the same if I were younger...

Congrats!! Your doing what many talk about, but few follow through with.  Best of luck at Basic, you might want to consider asking Firehead and Az_sarge about their experiences and advice regarding basic.

Congratulations!  :D

I myself am looking to join up as soon as I drop the weight, and the more I look forward to joining, the more respect I get for soldiers. Ft. Huachuca is great... if you don't mind being in a small town. But it's an hour away from Tucson, so that's good.

I'm interested in hearing some stories about basic, too. All I've been told is "do whatever you're told to do". One of my friends was talking about a scene from some movie where the guys put soap in a sock and beat a guy who was holding the rest back, the sock keeps bruises from coming. We all decided it probably doesn't happen, but there was some guy at Denny's who overheard us and said that it DOES, and that it's actually suggested by DIs, "off the record, of course."

Anyone have horror stories about basic? Anyone know if that kinda stuff does happen? lawl.

Hey, I don't laugh at anyone in our military.   Ft. Leonard Wood?  I used to live a few miles from there, cool.  Good luck and thank you for serving.

It\'s better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

That place sucks ass, at least for an infantryman.

How come you didn't go infantry? There is always room for new people in the  infantry. Besides....you might get to kill people!

Huachuca sucks...Their water tower says so
"Ft. Huachua, a great place to re enlist since (some year I can't remember)"
When you re enlist you generally have a station of choice or down on orders...It just works out that way.
So...it's a great place to re enlist so you can leave it...
If a joke takes longer to explain than it does to tell...it isn't worth telling?

At any rate, I myself work at Huachuca and my wife was a 98C during her time in.  I worked a different part of intel.  Any questions you might have MOS specific feel free to ask, I'm actually in contact with some instructors for that course as well.

Also a 98C has a chance to be at many many different sites and not just Army posts.  Keep your eyes open for career advancement and see if you can't score one of the better assignments.

Ian, I didn't go infantry due to the folks. I'm only 17 and they wouldn't sign me over unless I chose a noncombat MOS.As for questions... I really want to know what the standard day is for a 98C. I mean my I read the description and talked to a recruiter who was one, but didn't get a great description of the normal day. And yeah, that's the reason I went 98C. There are a lot of different opportunities. I mean I certainly didn't do it for the bonus and the college money (didn't get that much). I'll certainly keep my eyes out, thanks.
