Question regarding ASP expandable batons
« on: April 16, 2007, 05:43:14 PM »
I was told by the guy at SGC that they're legal to carry, and have in your car, just like a knife.  Is it considered concealed or is it illegal to have it in my driver's side door pouch?

I asked about one at the Knife Shop one time, and the employee said it was classified just like a gun, like you need a permit an stuff.  But also, he worked at the Knife Shop.

I am not sure about tbe drivers side, passenger side glove box would be better treating it like a firearm. You can have it on your person, but I am not sure if it needs to be in view also like a firearm. If you want protection on your drivers side have a maglight or Klight with 6 cells or more. Something that was told to me when I was taking my ccw was it looks alot better in court of law, that you beat your assalent with a flashlight because a  batton may look to hostel to the jury. I carry FOX OC spray and 1911 .45 that would keep any assalent from harming me. I also have a maglight in my car so I can see in the dark. [smilie=armata_pdt_29.gif]  The problem with a blunt object anyway is that the individual may still be able to testify against you.

I have it in my car on the drivers side because of the rinks I go to.  It's for when I get out, incase someone is there, I'll have it close.  I've done it a few times as practice, and I can snap it out as I'm opening the door.

I'll just keep it in the backseat pouch.

Wrong.
That's the new CA CQB Version 9 Blunt Object, with wooden furniture.

Nothing as simple and effective as a Glock inder the driver's seat. Had that all the way to TX and back. Lot of lunatics on those roads

Called a Rungu
You can throw them, all the massai I ran into had them on their belts ready to beat someone in the head with. I even nabbed one made from a tractor trailier lug nut.

The county attorney's office would prosecute you for illegally concealed weapons for the baton, but the only convctions have been against felons.

Its a grey area, but with a CCW you CAN carry a baton anywhere (inclding bars, schools, ASU).

I'd stick to keeping a tire iron or something along those lines that you could claim is normally in the car for purposes other than beating people.

Lets say someone tries to attack you as you sit at a stop light. Which looks more incriminating? You whacking him with a tire iron, or you whacking him with an expandable baton? You also don't want to hit someone in the head with one of those.

Aim for the back of the legs, arms, etc...

I don't plan on using it at a stoplight or whatever, again, it's used mainly for the parking lot at the ice rinks I go to.  Past month, while doing adult league in phoenix, I've been told I wouldn't make it out to my car alive.  Luckily I did.  When I was in Flagstaff, and had every single fan wanting to lynch me...  or in Tucson, after the referee gassed the goalie in the last 2 minutes of a 2-2 game, which resulted in Phoenix scoring and winning the game...

But yeah, I've moved it to the backseat for now.

they're legal to carry openly, but you wouldn't want to, it's considered antagonistic.  In the back seat is a good idea.  You sound like you've thought about it,  I think you have your head on straight.

You would think that... hahaha.  Nah, I'm pretty careful, I just don't want to be caught without something when the time comes.
