Whats a good LBV
« on: May 18, 2007, 03:05:39 AM »
ok guys i bought a vest off of Kastway Airsoft. At the time it didnt seem like a bad vest. however ive play a couple of games with it now and have found that it dosent meet my needs any more, it has no place to hold my radio and it cant hold alot of speed loaders.
i dont like being limited in how many mags i can carry. i was wondering if you guys could suggest a good Vest????[/img]

I run with an M4, and a Glock 23 Right now i carry 8 midcaps and 2 lowcaps. i carry 5 pistol loaders, a multi-tool, a glock knife, an ICOM, my sidearm, and extra battery, and a bag of bbs.
I am looking for a vest and am intrested in getting one of the CIRAS-like  vests. Do you guys like using this vest? is it hotter than using a regular vest? thoughts comments concerns?

The US Issued Fighting Load Carrier is a pretty decent vest. Its adjustable, and you can carry a lot of shit. Right now, mine carries 400 rounds for my SAW, 2 Frags, a small GP pouch for nods, and an IFAK(first aid kit) and I still have room for shit. You can get them for pretty cheap, you just need some pouches to throw on there(thats the expensive part).

Now that I've been in a hot AO, carrying a lot of shit isn't so "cool". I don't suggest an armor carrier, since it doesn't offer any real protection, it just makes you more likely to go down as a heat casualty when it gets hot outside. Go as light as possible.

A CIRAS is a great piece of kit but by itself it is not going to fill the needs you have.

Since you didnt give us an indication of price range, I would suggest a simple rig such as the one Raith is selling and spend money on determining the right pouch layout which works the best for you. Having a CIRAS is neat but if you put crapy pouches on it, it still sucks as a vest.

Focus on pouches, check out the chuckwalla pouch which was designed for holding speedloaders in the gearmaking thread. Look at what pouches are out there and try them out. Dont jump and get the most expensive vest with no pouches and expect the same useability out of it as I got from my inexpensive TacticalTailor mav.
