Yeah, Combat Missions was kinda cool.  I think they used both MILES and Simunitions in the show.

They were real guns with blanks and MILES gear.

Yeah, then one team got in a buncha trouble for covering the hostage, who was wearing a MILES vest, with a blanket so she couldnt get shot. I think they got kicked off. But it was pretty cool to have all those different police forces/military forces on there.

I know the police train with stuff called simunitions. They fire basically paint detergent pellets out of a real steal gun. They may have to change the barrel out but the rest of the gun remains the same. Cool stuff, but Civi's can't buy them.

I saw another show when I was in Texas that was all about real special ops missions history channel style.  They were pretty cool. Kind of like those reinactments that they show on americas most wanted and stuff like that, just cooler with guns.

When I was down in Mesa with my mom (she was taking me to antique stores) and I said 'Hey, the SWAT team is in front of that building!' So she looked at a few stores and took me over to talk to them. They had their weapons on a table, with the Simunitions. Screwloose is right, they do have to change the barrels. They all agreed that they hurt about twice as bad as a paintball gun. So I wouldnt want to play against them with Simunitions! There was also a show on the History Channel called 'Conquest' which usually features primitave fighting techniques, knight-era fighting, and so on and so forth. But in 1 episode they went against a SWAT team, who were playing as the terrorists with a hostage. At first I thought they were using airsoft, but they were using Simunitions, which I guess are gaining popularity! Does anyone know of any SWAT teams that train with airsoft?

There are local PDs who have used airsoft in the past but I don't know if they still do.  My cousin is with Mesa SWAT and they did use airsoft before going to simunitions.

ERU or SWAT doesnt use them any more. Thing of the past i guess. I guess the stuff we are using is "ancient" so to speak. It be cool to use there stuff but unfortunately tax payers are not paying for our gear.

think of all the disadvantages of airsoft!  Slow velocity, short range,etc...   Why not train with your own weapon?  Sims have higher fps, range etc.  More realistic.  "Train the way you fight".  I think the extreme pain had by getting pelted with paint like that would take a little bit of the fun out of airsoft.  I prefer plastic any day.  As for realism, Sims win hands down!

It's not a question of the guns, the guns are the real thing.
It's a question of the conversion and the rounds.
As well as the $$$.

I would much rather get my hands on some MILES gear. That would be fun.

True. MILES would be much more fun and painless! But the price would be really high. And the front red box would annoy some people. But it would be really fun with the muzzle flash and shell ejection. [:D]

I see we have some military training experts on our hands!  MILES has it limitations, it is an ancient system.  It is useful, and so it will be until it is no longer used.  Simunition is a differnt means of training, for differnt types of training.  It doesn't really matter what is "fun"!  It matterswhat works, so when the real lead starts flying, you know what to do.  All of you who have experiece with these systems (other than holding the gun) please insert comments here:

Hell I'm all for live fire and manuver training myself.  Get some M249's and M60's blasting rounds over your head while you're trying to manuver and find cover.  Especially at night with tracers wizzing by.  Now that's a hoot!
