m4 upgrade troubles
« on: March 17, 2008, 09:28:37 PM »
my m4's piston lost all its teeth so i decided to upgrade while i have it in pieces. so i bought metal bushing, mad bull metal tooth piston,ca high torq motor, metal piston head,m 130 spring and some grease . after installing all these things and making several adjustments it works for a few minutes until the piston gets stuck all the way back and needs to be pushed back the rest of the way to cycle through , it happens in semi and auto . im useing a 9.6v 2400mah battery . my only thought is it could be the spring is binding on the stock spring guide. any help on what this could be?

Did you shim your gears correctly?

the gears move freely , i tested them with my finger box closed with no spring , everthing moved fine , timing set to 1 o'clock position. do you think a spring guide with ball bearings would help?

"upgrade troubles"

like peanut-butter and jelly, my friend.

I'm sorry things are getting a little messy, if you can't get it working, take it to gearbox and trust the guys there to make things right.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, and you've seen me say it time and time again....

but let this be a reminder... when you change the way in which a finely tuned and engineered machine works, the risk for this sort of failure is profound. Replaced parts should be stock parts.

I'm sorry for being less supportive than one would hope. I hope you get things working, good luck!

I think I know who you are talking about and I highly doubt he gave you the wrong information. Your problem is either shimming or motor height and/or both.

Once you start messing with springs and motors you must adjust everything to the new setup. If this is your first time you probably screwed something up. Just take it in somewhere and have them do it. Or do what I did and buy some PoS gearbox and do it a couple times. For the most part Ares is right, one mistake will screw up the entire gun for a long time and cost alot of money.

Besides wouldn't a M130 put you over the 400fps limit?

It's very obvious to me, that, if this motor is not turning an M130, your battery is a piece of dogshit.

You require one with a higher amperage rating.

it pulled the spring in semi auto but on full auto when the piston was left in the middle after firing the motor could not pull it the rest of the way , the battery is just fine and is the biggest mah that fits my gun , i know its not the battery because i tried it with a 10.4v 3600 battery and it still happend , and this is not the first time i,ve worked on a gun i know how to shim the gears. with the original spring it's working great , not the fps i want though. i don't like stores that don't take back merchandise . i would have bought the systema motor for 90 but he said the ca one for 48 would work , it won't, bad advise.now i cant exchange it so i'm stuck with it and can't get the systema motor. i would gladly have exchanged it and gave the 50 extra for the other motor, but they dont refund or exchange.

No, not the milliamperage, but the discharge amperage.

You need a 'strong' battery for heavier springs, not a 'big' one.

Any brand M130/SP130 will put you way over the limit, regardless.

Hooking it up to a meter is the precise way.

depends on your set up, I have gotten 400 FPS with 110s, but anything over 120 will put you over.
