If you want to support the troops you can find a large amount of ways to do it besides wearing dog tags or some other silly crap.

Donate some money to the USO: http://uso.com/donate, or http://www.operationshoebox.com/, or put a flag up outside your house. You could also volunteer to work with veterans: http://www.azdvs.gov/volunteer.htm. You can get involved with other organizations like http://soldiersangels.org/ or http://www.americasupportsyou.mil/AmericaSupportsYou/letters_messages.html

My point is, coming from someone who has served, wearing dogs tags to show support is ok, but in my opinion it's just a lazy token gesture, but if you really want to support the guys there are better and more meaningful ways to do it.

Isn't wearing dog tags about the same as wearing a yellow wristband?

Being a Recruiter I'm out in the general public in uniform ALL THE TIME. And to be honest for the most part most people still support the troops, provided the troops don't get drunk and trash a bar, or act like they are entitled to free stuff/drinks/blow jobs, ect.....

The only thing I could think of doing would be when your with people that hate service members or stupid policy/politics, ect. Just remind them it isn't the servicemen's choice as to were and what we are tasked with. The only choice we made was to go ahead and raise our right hand.

I could go on and on about all the things civilains do that piss me off, but I rather not waste bandwitdth.

Really!? I've heard of bottomless fries...but they're free??

Actually, I have been served differently when the person on the other side knew I was "in". Whether that be because I stopped at a place while in uniform, or I showed my ID to make a purchase or something. But I use "differently" in a very objective sense. Sometimes it's a good thing, some it's not so good. Although it's always been a pleasant surprise when someone says/does something nice to/for you when you're not expecting it...

But expecting free stuff? Well, that's the army for ya...  :-"

Doc I Like the Way You Think, I hope I never need your legal services but if I do you'll be the one I look to!

Patrick, Don't Sell Yourself Short,,,,You're Entitled To All The Free Blow Jobs You Can Get!

I won't forget with hadji did, like Doc reminded us, for the radical hadji, their fundamental mindset is not one of acceptance but the eradication of everything that is not them, since it is un clean and beneath them.  Not really of acceptance, peace and tolerance; talk to those that have been there, but enough of this shit as we could be here all day debating this topic.

So onto more serious issues, support your favorite troop by,,,

Bottomless Red Robin Fries Are The Perfect Topper To The 5 Alarm Burger with Pepper-Jack cheese, jalapeños, fresh tangy salsa, sliced tomato, crisp lettuce and Chipotle mayo and Extra Jalapeños with my Jalapeños.

See lucky for you Army folk, we aren't allowed to wear are utilities anywhere but work.  And i hate prancing around in my uniforms, cause it's tooooo hot for Blues, and i'm still not a fan or shirt stays! i wish i could wear my utilities out in public. (FYI for those who do not know by some random chance, utilities is the Marine Corps cammies) i have to sneak in my ID or try to mention it in a conversation or anything to get one.
