Interesting Frank, And too damn truthfull! Of the units activated in this state alone there are two of them that were activated to do base security even though their were anything but that MP's (one was Arty the other Engineers)!

But I must admire their intestional fortitude to suck it up and do the job.

And remember the National Guard and Reserve trains only an average of 38 days a year to meet the same standards that Active duty folks train for all year. Now granted some units don't train properly but then again neither do some AD units (506th Maint Co ring any bells???)

My point of starting this thread was to bring awareness to who you are, what you do and what you mean to us. It is often times a thankless job you do. A lot of people call you "weekend warriors", or "wanna be Army men", but haven't the slightest idea of the debt of gratitude that they (read WE) owe you.

The guard and reserve made up a large part of the units that served in Vietnam.  That was one long weekend for them for sure.

I'm gonna have to find a Digital copy of the picture we have up at work so I can post it. It shows a FMTV (5 ton truck) over in SE Asia (Iraq or Afganistan area) with a cardbord sign in the window that says "One weekend a month my A**!"

Gives us all a chuckle every time we pass it.

Frank if your tryin to bring awareness to who I am and what I do thaks, but don't forget the aprox 5,000 other guradsmen in this state alone, plus reservists. Specific to the AA boards I know Scott is also serving in the NG, although he is in an aviation unit and that cushy job don't count [;)] And there is also a young man that I met this weekend at the US Airsfot Mout event (sorry I fogot his name) that recently joined the Guard.

Yes I know it is a thankless job, but I'm glad we have the choice and chance to do it.

I think someone posted a copy of that pic on the boards sometime back, or maybe it was in a email I got.
