Willing to travel 2.5 hours for this AO?
« on: December 18, 2008, 01:54:41 PM »
Hi all, so I have been working with the Forest Service on another AO similar to the deal TAC struck for Santa Rita Battlegrounds.  This one is out east near Safford Arizona, north of Wilcox.  What I'd like to know is how many AA folks would be willing to make a 2.5 to 3 hour trip to play at it?

Its benefits are that its heavily wooded, high elevation and best of all it is written permission by the Forest service (Bio BB's are REQUIRED) but we can camp on site.  This is not final and there is no inaugural event slated for it but is looking really, REALLY, good to go.

Some examples of the terrain:

Alternate AO sample terrain (lower elevation)

Let me know who would make a trip and who has it in their heads as too far, I'd like to get an idea of plausibility for an event.

If you are going to make them over-night/all-night opps then I will most definately be up for it, that place looks brilliant! For normal games however, traveling 2-3 hours for 6 hours or less of play seems a little rediculous. But, keep up the good work, that AO looks like a ton of fun.

I would if it wasa going to be a larger event such as the ones that the Hawks have hosted.  I say that meaning it doesn't have to be the Hawks but any of the groups, the Hawks, BAS, Phantom, or Airsofter's games.  Night games with camping also have an appeal to me as well.

I would be down to do an overnight deal, play a night game, camp, then play a morning/afternoon game

Yeah, If it was going to be an all day/overnigt event then I would definatly travel up there, Now if it was something like a 4-6 hours then I dont really know if it would be worth the drive.

So it sounds like a few folks are up for the trip if the event is an all day deal or multi day deal.  That makes sense, who wants to spend 5+ hours behind the wheel and only get to play 4 or 5 hours of airsoft for the trouble.  I guess the ideal setup would be an all day Saturday game with a little campout action on Friday night.

Also have leads on an alternate AO at a a lower elevation that's close by (see orginal post)

And the altitude sucks as well, I for one, the headaches at nite Is enough to keep me down here closer to sea level. It looks great and have had a chance to play there In the past and had to pass. I'm most likey a minority, just one of my demons I have to deal with...... ](*,)  My 2 cents worth, keep SASCO.. the lower altitude place your thinking about could be interesting... ;)

Definitely not eliminating any choices here with this project, simply opening up more Forest Service venues.  The eventual goal is to network all the districts and have an AO in each one across the state.  So far we are 2 for 2 with Mt. Lemmon being up in the air.  As long as we stay straight up with the administration staff and be respectful of the land and our impact this is a very possible goal which sets great precedents for the sport.

As long as it was an overnight trip, and 14 and over teens were aloud, I could get a few people to possibly go with me and yes I would also have my dad who airsofts too come. So that is at least 2 or 3 right there. Where exactly is it?(mapquest or google earth it please?)
