x2 on the White Mountains.
I've been backpacking back there before and it is simply beautiful.
Temperature is perfect during the day and just cold enough at night (pack warm cloths for night).
But the drive is rather long at 3-3.5 hours if you're coming from greater phoenix area.
One of my absolute favorite areas is a campsite just outside of Show Low called KP Cienega.
I believe there is a small fee, but it's well worth it.
Again, the drive is close to 4 hours.
Now if you're looking for something close, check out Locket Meadow in Flag.
BEAUTIFUL!
It's on the backside of Humphreys Peak kinda.
You can see the back side of the peak cappe din snow even during the summer.
The forest is mainly composed of green grass and aspen trees everywhere.
Absolutly beautiful and car accesible.
I believe that site is 10-20 dollars a night.
And if you are looking for a close place to camp where there are no fees and it's not very populated, try up by the ice caves in flag (aka lava tubes).
Just got back this weekend and it was gorgeous wooded area with nice open meadows. This place is car accesible too.
Any questions feel free to ask man!
