New barrel questions
« on: October 05, 2009, 08:40:14 AM »
I am looking into getting a new inner barrel for my M4 and I want to get longer/tighter barrel to get more accuracy and put a silencer on it.
How would I go about doing this? What parts do I need besides the inner barrel and silencer? Are the M4 "plus" barrels made for what im looking to do? Could I use an M16 barrel in an M4?

correct me if im wrong but the standard m4 inner barrel is 363mm.
now that thats out of the way all you need to do is measure the length of your silencer and add that to 363 (just remember to keep the measurments in mm). as far a silencers go you may need to get an new flash hider (if yours is not threaded) but only if you are getting a screw on silencer. i think some silencers come with a threaded flash hider. all barrels are interchangeable (as long as they are AEG barrels) so all you need to do is get the measurments right.

Its a Classic Army. I am just trying to increase my range and accuracy as much as possible.

Barrel length has little to no affect on accuracy, your choice of bbs, barrel, and your hop up matter a lot more.  Whatever accuracy increase you get from a longer barrel (if there is any increase), will not be worth the extra length. (You might actually see a decrease in accuracy since a part of the barrel will be "floating" in the silencer and could be more affected by vibrations)

My suggest would be:
Madbull or Prometheus barrel (Don't go for a barrel tighter than 6.03mm) Prometheus would be ideal.  Madbull is supposed to be good for those on a budget.
Systema bucking
SCS (or an H nub, but they aren't as good)

Evike has all of the above.

BBs-I found G&G bbs to be of very good quality.  (IMO better than KSCs)  Goldenball bbs are also great, but they tend to leave a residue in the barrel and bucking.

Getting your gun to the 400 fps range will give you maybe an extra 10-20 feet of range.  (it really isn't much of an increase at all) From 350+ fps with .2s to 380+ fps with .2s gave me about 10-20 feet.

A good compression job with blue RTV gasket seal will give you better compression. A tighbore barrel will help as well. Maybe a new nozzle to have more airflow and hopup bucking as well.

No prob, glad I can help.

It's like an H nub, but works much much better. Sometimes it takes some modifications (simple mods to the hop up which are good to do anyway) to get it to work well.  Once it does, there's no going back. ;)

If you have any issues installing it, PM me.  If I can't help you, I'll direct you to Shredder.  (I don't work for him, he's just swamped with emails and stuff so yeah)

You can order them from him, evike, or Edgi.

The SCS's shipped today

EDIT
Also, you can go post questions into the forums of shredder. They sometimes speak Tagalog, but ask them(or me) to translate.

Usual mods to the hop up are filing obstructions in the space where the nub goes, and other things that might hinder the SCS from aligning properly.

Sanding/filing your hop up arm so the SCS sits level, sometimes widening the barrel window (the hop up hole thing on the barrel), simple stuff like that.  If the barrel isn't wide enough, the SCS can tear the bucking (since the inside of the bucking nub can't fit all the through the barrel window).  I had this problem.  To fix it, you just take a knife, scissors, or sand paper (I did a combination of all three :D) and just file down the sides of the window.

SCS works best with stock buckings (because they are thing), Systema buckings, then Guarder silicone (50 degree), then Madbull blues.  I like my Guarder bucking the best.  It gives a very good seal.  (the internal nub is rather large, so it's a good thing I widened my barrel window :))

It really does wonders for accuracy. Puts H nubs to shame.

Oh yeah i forgot about the barrel window thing. What do you think will work better, a systema or a madbull blue? I have a well used madbull blue and a semi-new systema.

I've heard good and bad about madbull buckings.  Systema seems to be a "universal" bucking.  Try both and see which works better.  ;)
