thinking of getting an M14
any suggestions on Manufacturers?

Because I know Whiskey will be posting the why, go with g&g.  Particularly the veteran edition.

The only part you'll really look at upgrading, in my opinion, is the hop-up.

Oh, the handguard, as well, but that's a given with all of the airsoft m14s and variants.

You won't have to upgrade the hop-up. There's nothing wrong with the stock unit/bucking. There's no reason to replace the stock either unless you crack chances are you won't because it's durable plastic.

Iv'e had my G&G for 2 years and it's never skipped a beat (except jamming once due to a oval BB; that was a quick fix). It's completely stock with exception to a tightbore barrel.

You shouldn't have to replace that either. It would be cool to have the real steel part on instead but that's the same with most AEG's. I'm not trying to be an ass; I just don't want this kid to think he will absolutely have to change out all these parts.

That wouldn't be on my top 5 list of M14s to buy.

Even if there were only 4.

Oh no, the g&g is perfectly fine stock, just saying that that's probably one of the few parts you'll want to upgrade down the road, but isn't necessary.

Dont waste your money, it's a JOKE.  If you want a TM based M14 buy the CYMA and use it instead, at least it will be good quality.  I'm with Vince on this, I wouldnt recommend that M14 if UTG paid me to.  I also never recommend TM's... there are much better M14's on the market and for cheaper too...  Considering a G&G M14 Veteran + battery is still cheaper than a stock TM and shoots 380 w/ .25's out of the box has a tightbore and is full metal full wood, no reason to buy a TM, ever, unless you just dont like money.

The base model G&G M14's are ~$250 save your money and buy that.

Got my hands on the g&g handguard.  Much sturdier than the soc 16 version with the cut out.

thanks for the suggestions.  I took it all in and decided on the g&g GR14 HBA Long.  It'll run me almost 5$$ but after adding up the first choice plus upgrades, price is pretty much the same

G&G definetely. comes with almost everyhing you want ( except TB and might wanna new hop up).

on another note...I've read UTG doesn't actually manufacture anything, only rebrand products for resale in the US, and that almost all TM parts will fit UTG's.  Don't know if its true or not, but I found it interesting.  I'll let ya'll know how it goes..I ended up changing my mind again and ordered the CA EBR m14 from airsoftoutletNW after reading a post about ATF seizing some of their stock for some dumb reasons so I figured I'd show them support and become a customer.  They're actually really awesome and have a great selection,  I didn't order on the net,  I actually called them directly since I had some questions.  Shameless plug I know.
