Walmart Crossman BBs? Good deal or Crap?
« on: August 01, 2010, 03:48:08 PM »
New to airsoft... got an ECHO 1 MP5 used off of Craigs list.  The kid who sold it to me gave me the cheap cybergun .2g bbs he used.  The BBs jammed the gun and the magazines.  they were +/- .03.  I stopped using them immediately and got some +/- .01 airsplats from big 5 and now the mags and gun work great.

My question is I saw at Walmart crossman brand .2 at incredible prices both regular and bio.  they were +/- .02, has anyone tried these in an AEG like my ECHO 1 MP5?  Curious if these crossmans are usable in an AEG?  There tolerance is better then the cybergun crap... but not as good as the airsplat I got.  I'm not the kind of guy to pay a premium for the sake of perfection, so if the crossmans will work without jamming then I'd probably want to get them.  Please let me know if you have tried them and how they worked.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Thanks, if they work good for your M4 i'll have to give em a try.. they price is definately right!...

Also they had airsoft marker ammo?  Do you guys use these in games?  Will the marker coating damage AEGs?

Again thanks.

crap

This...

I've seen polished injection mold cylinders make their way into Crossman BB's.  Pulled one out of the hop up unit of my team leads M60 when he needed BB's NOW because he forgot to order some... worst idea he ever made.

If you are that tight up that 45$ (shipped) for 3 bags of Airsoft Elite .20's or other comparable brands, then maybe this isnt the hobby or sport for you.  I can almost guarentee something will go wrong eventually and it will cost you far more than a bag of decent BB's will!

You dont put 87 octane into a drag car and expect it to perform well or perform at all.  Spending money on quality batteries, BB's, foot wear and eye pro are the staples of airsoft spending, cheap out on gear and guns all you want, but decent batteries and BB's will help your gun perform at it's max, good foot wear to keep your feet safe and comfortable and good eye pro to protect the only two eyes you will ever get.

I used these bb's in my Echo 1 M4 and all it did was jam. Now I use Echo 1 bb's or whatever I can get from Gearbox or online for my AEG's and never had a single problem. Every time I used Crossman, my AEG's jammed and it wasn't fun. I try and stay away from them and get something else. I would recommend you do the same, unless you really need to use them or don't want to spend any money on getting other bb's. But if you don't want to spend some money on decent bb's then this probably isn't the best hobby for you. Just saying.

Going on 3 years now with straight Crossman.20's. Never had a Jam, have never seen a part from the casting mold. The Crossman .12's? No, not even for springers

That said, both the Crossman .20's
and the new Crossman .25s have served me well during every use

I just wish the .25 pellets came in white, so I could trace them better.

If you are playing in your back yard I'de say buy them. If you are actually going to go places to airsoft then just fork up the extra few bucks.

Thanks for the input, good specific example.  My gun is an Echo 1 as well, so I'll probably stay away from the crossmans.
However, don't all assume cheaper is lesser quality.  In most cases it is, but I was initially thinking Crossman is a much bigger company then these airsoft only brands and has a lot bigger manufacturing capability.  Also, they have a distribution contract with Walmart, the worlds largest retailer.  If they wanted to, they could easily make a high quality BB  and sell it for a fraction of the other brands, thats the power of Walmart.  However, it doesn't seem they have taken that route and their airsoft line is still pretty lame.

Again thanks for your experience and being specific.

Wow, a much different experience then a lot of the other replies.  What type of AEG have you been using them with?

Variety of E1's, Ca's, and Tm's.
Many have upgraded parts, and a few even have TBB's
ALL have at least a 0.04 barrel
If you have an E1 M4, you should be fine.

For the record, a lot of people have different definitions of "good" BB's.  For some people a "good" BB simply means it doesn't jam their stock gun.  Some are a little pickier on what is considered a "good" BB.  IE consistency between BB's, air bubbles, seam lines, coating, etc.

I say do not use them. In my experience, with different hop up units, bucking, nubs. the crossman BBs either curve wildly, break inside my gun, or jam inside my barrel. They are cheaply manufactured and with that comes lose tolerances (why they get stuck in tight bore barrels), poor materials (sometimes why they break or shatter), or have a high amount of air inside them because of the manufacturing process. (Also why they break from the shock of the gun firing and can explain somewhat why they are wildly unpredictable.) In another note, i know a few people who don't seem to know how to clean and properly lubricate there barrel. I've also been there when they use both the crossman BBs and echo1 BBs. They noticed an increase in there effective range and fewer jams when using the Echo 1 BBs probably because of the coating on the BB and the tighter manufacturing tolerances.
