20 gauge birdshot vs. buckshot
« on: February 27, 2011, 09:53:34 PM »
Alright, since I'm nearly 18, I thought it would be about time to start posting in real fire arms section  seeing as I'm not only an avid airsofter, but also enjoy shooting the real steel counterparts, and I hopefully won't be accosted half as much as usual for being a minor. Anyways, getting back onto topic, I've got an old Fox model B side by side, and I was wondering what load would be optimal for home defense.

Birdshot is for birds.
And buckshot is for bucks. They don't make a 'human shot' so I gotta make due with what I have.

They don't market it as such, but they make plenty of 'human shot'. They market them as 'personal defense' or 'home defense' rounds.
12 gauge, 00 Buckshot is the favorite home defense round of the masses.

I realize that 12 gauge buck is probobly the most ideal load, but I have a 20 gauge and I'm not too familiar with, so I wanted to know from people with experience what load should be used.

As a avid hunter, I would never use buck shot to shoot a Buck(deer).  As it would tear a deer apart.  Now if you used a shotgun to hunt deer, You would us a slug.

Back to your question, what would be good for home defence?

#9 bird shot if perfect, it would tear the intruder apart, and would not kill your kids in the next room if you missed.  00 buck shot is about 9, 8.38 mm (9mm).  That could rip threw your wall and could kill or mame family members, or neighbors

If you're unable to penetrate an interior wall, you're also unable to provide sufficient penetration to reliably stop the bad guy.

Read this. Also read the other link I posted.

Know how I can tell you are both morons?

I would love for you to show me one example of birdshot cutting ANYTHING in half.  Hell, I've shot paper from less than 10 feet and that wasn't cut in half.  There's a mountain of evidence and explanation of why bird shot is not sufficient for self defense from people way smarter than you two fucktards.

I imagine if people stop saying stupid things, xm won't have much to say and will leave?

But, on a more constructive side, there's the "ignore" function you can use to filter out people you don't like.

Nobody is making you stay.  Maybe if your head wasn't so far up your ass, you'd realize that the world doesn't revolve around you and you aren't required to post in threads you don't know anything about.
