Heavier spring, lower rpm motor, higher torque gears, lower amp/voltage battery. Those are your fixes that won't wear out components prematurely (active braking hurts several pieces of the system including the motor).
Keep in mind though, that parts have a lifespan most easily measured in # of bb's shot. So if something will last 50k bb's before failure, the more quickly you spin those parts, the more quickly you reach that 50k number.
My preference is 7.4v 15-25c batteries to avoid such issues.
