Anti-reversal latch wont fit new gears.
« on: December 02, 2013, 12:01:32 PM »
With the new gears i have put in my gun, the anti-reversal latch is scraping the spur gear and keeps it from running. Is it safe to run without the latch? Or will i have to scrap what i have? To be clear i do have it put together correctly.

Yes, you need the latch. If its scraping against your spur gear, you do not have it put together correctly.

It is not possible to hit the spur gear if assembled correctly. You have it on the opposite side of your bevel gear than where it is supposed to be.

That is not 100% accurate.  Non-standard latches such as the ones in ICS M4's will not clear some gears, such as Guarder ITU's.

P90s can have that issue, it isnt necessary to have the anti reversal latch, it just makes the gears rotate an extra 1/4 rotation or more depending on setup. For the p90 I solved it by shimming the anti reversal latch.

So i put it together to se if it would run, and it did. There was a strange grinding so i took it apart again, reassembled it and there is no noise now. I only have a 7.4 lipo to test with (which may be too high) and now it sounds like the gearbox may be reversing . I honestly dont know because ive never heard reversing before, but it takes another half second to what seems to be winding backwards. This is with shs 13:1 gears and a leftover matrix 3000. Could it be bad gears?

And can lead to double feeds and horrible compression jams which break the nozzle/piston/etc.

If a piece of the latch is hitting your spur gear, then dremmel down the latch ever so slightly in the area that you need it until it works as it should.
I realize that while most people suck, there are still some genuine characters that exist out here. I'll show my appreciation by being genuine in return.
Love the sport.

M4, echo 1 platinum gearbox, mostly matrix internal mixed with some others. I tried shimming the latch for height and the gear is hitting the shims too. I have a bravo spur gear that does fit but is pretty worn and some stock g&g's somewhere at my other parents house. I assume you would recommend a working gearbox over spending too much time on a potentially flawed gear. But again any information helps.

if possible please post pics. i would like to see your anti reversal latch the spot where the arl sits and what it looks like when the spur and arl are in the gb together (for this last one the pic need to be taken with gb shell apart, preferably at an angle where oyu can see the spot where the spur and arl meet. no shims on the arl for this pic please).
