Look for the handheld ones. I used to carry one when I was a paintball ref (It was a fun job even after I converted to airsoft) and they work great. They are also the cheapest on the market.

After reading a lot of the reviews of those hand held ones.  It appears that most people say they are not super accurate.  Although having one that can be carried easily would be nice, I think one that is more accurate would be a better choice.

I'm probably gonna buy a handheld. From my experience, they are very accurate. We used them to check people randomly on the field as their tanks heated up during the day. If they were hot, they got sent to the chrono station to adjust (with one of the big expensive red chronos). I never sent anyone to the station that wasnt actually shooting hot even when the handheld was only off by a few fps.

edit: I don't really know how well it will work with airsoft- smaller rounds to lock on and higher velocities...

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Sportsman Wharehouse off the I-17 and Loop 101 sells chronographs as well.  I believe their prices start at $79 and go up from there.

They only had one brand of Chrono there, and they were all pretty much the same.  So I got the cheap one.  From what I can tell, it only seems to work when you accidentally shoot the Chrono.  Otherwise it never reads the BB's.  Go figure. . .

Chrono's need bright direct light to work, so if you're trying to use it say indoors it's not going to work.  Direct sunlight, and I mean direct works best.  If the sun is off to an angle and you're in the shade it won't register.

*Well I will try it again tomorrow and see how it works.*

Well Harley, again you have made the world a better place.  Sure enough it was because silly me I did not want to stand in the sun to Chrono my gun.

So new question, is it normal to have a 20+/-FPS difference in the shoots?

My upgraded Mechbox shoots anywhere from 364-346. Most often it is around 355.

My "CQB" one is shooting around 310-291.
These are with .23's.
Anythoughts?

Well my gun used to have a 20fps range until Scott worked on it again, regreased the gears and such.  Now it shoots pretty steady at about 385fps with a range of 5fps difference.  That was the last time it was chornoed and it was tight!  So to answer your question 20 or so fps was in the margine of error at one time or another for my gun.

I'm thinking about getting the "Shooting Chrony".  Anyone have any input on this one?

I got the cheap version of this one the other day.  It was around $70. from that Sportsmans store up off the I-17 and 101 area.

Once I was using it correctly it works good. It has been shot several times and is still working.  Also it seems to be more sensitive than the one we usually have at the AA games, so you don't have to shoot so close to the bottom.

I use to have one of those.  It worked really well right up till a 10mm round went right through it that is.
