Looking For A Really Good Radio
« on: December 25, 2004, 08:31:10 PM »
Hey everyone, i'm looking for a really good radio. I checked the airsoft gear guide for recommendations on radios, but it never gave any links to sites with radio. I'm looking for the type of radio that will fit in a radio pouch by any of the major gear makers( HSGI, BHI, Eagle Ind.). I have seen some of the kind that Airsofter1, and Raith use. That is the kind i'm looking for. So if you guys could gimme some links for some good radios that would be great.

Also, You can consider this a wanted ad. So if you have a good, working radio like the kind i'm searching for, and you wanna sell it, let me know, we can work something out.

(I'm specifically looking for a radio that will fit in the HSGI Weesatch "radio" pouch)

Thanks Guys...

I have the Motorola Talkabout T5700 radio (I got mine on eBay).  It works really great and is compatible with the Firefox throat mic (also on eBay).  From the bottom of the radio to the base of the antenna it is 4.25 inches.  The antenna is another 2.5 inches.

well...that is essentially what i'm using now. I'm looking for an upgrade from these level radios. They are great little radios, but dont fit my needs.

What exactly are your needs?  I have noticed that most radios only have up to a 5-mile range with GMRS.  I used a Garmin Rhino (didn't belong to me) while backpacking and it performs the same as my current radio.

I think what he's looking for is a "patrol radio". The bulky black ones with the 6 in ( I think, estimate ) antenna. If thats what you're looking for, and you find a site, let me know. I'm starting to look as well.

no, that isnt what i'm looking for. I can see where you are confused tho. Its about an inch and a half thick, maybe 2, and about 6 to 7 inches tall. It looks like the radio police officers carry.

The Weesatch radio pouch is designed for radios in the SABER or MBITR size range.  The radio that I use is an ICOM F4S.

An excellent "airsoft" radio is the Radio Shack 21-1860, but its no longer being made.  Sometimes you can find them on eBay.  They should go for sub $30.

I saw two of those radio shack models go for $9 on ebay a couple of weeks ago.  I have been kicking myself in the butt for not bidding on them.

I don't know how powerful of a radio you're talking about, but just remember that there are laws as far a frequencies and even maximum ranges. You have to have a licence to operate them in that case. I originally was going to get my old PRC-25 up and running, but then realized that they run on military frequencies (duh). More than likely, me operating it wouldn't be a problem, but since I'm somewhat by Davis Monthan AF Base, I'm not going to take that chance with all the "terrorists" spooks there are right now.

Doesn't Mikey have one of those?
