Things are only going to get worse (natural disasters)... it's the End Times!
First, a large number of people will just disappear from the face of the earth, then it will all go down hill from there. ;)

1,000,000 homeless.
now 25,000 dead.

The scale of this disaster is terrible, so many lives have been completely destroyed.

I think a lot of people take the lack of natural disasters we experience here in AZ for granted.

so random...

Guys, at least here in crappy arizona, we dont have to worry about the following: tornadoes, hurricanes, tidal waves, bad earthquakes. At least this place has one advantage.

I read in the paper that the earthquake was about the magnitude of 1 million atomic bombs, and that it actually affected the earth's orbit slightly.

I'm pretty sure it was terrorists that caused the earthquake. ;)

If any one has read Micheal Crihton's newest, STATE OF FEAR they know what I am talking about.

Seriously though, it is sad how many people have lost thier lives and unfortunatley more and more people will die from this disaster. :(

And how so many more lives could have been saved if there was some sort of a warning system...it took 2 hours for the waves to reach Sri Lanka and India, even Somalia felt the hit and a 500 mph wave over almost 3000 miles = 6 hours, more than enough time to evacuate everyone inland.

I really don't think they would have evacuated people that far away. However, with such a large  population, they don't have too much money and lack alot of technology that could have seen this earthquake coming, and prevented at least half of the casualties. I feel sympathy for these people, but really, why do we help them and not our own hungry?

Because our hungry can easily get a job, and I assume in these other poor countries, it's much harder to get money. In America, there are so many ways to do so. And we also do help our hungry, theres just so much of them, we can't help them all.

Thats not entirely true. Some people have been injured early in their life and haven't earned SSI. Even with SSI, people don't get enough money.
I've experienced all of this first hand, due to my mom ruptering 2-3 disks in her spinal column. However, we were fortunate enough that she had worked previously and got income from the government. Now that we've been and gone in that situation, it's a lesson I will never forget.
I also have a friend who is in this situation and if it wasn't for my family and some others, he wouldn't have gotten literally anything for Christmas. However that didn't have anything to do with being hungry, but still targeted less fortunate people in general.
When a disaster strikes, for example, the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers, who aided us? We did of course. We always take care of those who are experiencing trouble, never anyone else.
