My New Dog!
« on: March 13, 2005, 11:51:11 PM »
I got her today from the South Mountain Facility of the AZ Humane Society.  It said she was a "Shepherd Mix", but then again they say that about every dog that isn't a chihuahua.  Either way, I can see the shepherd in her.

Her name was "Nala", and I'll probably keep calling her that.  (I know it's from the Lion King, but o well).  Here she is:

She's very strong and has already leaped over my 6-foot block fence once tonight.  I came home with a note on my door that read something like this:

"Dear azsarge,
a large brown dog jumped over your fence and ran down the street.
-Girl across the street"

Just as I was getting in my car to begin the search, a nice guy down the street brought her door to door asking everyone along the way if it was theirs.  I was relieved when I spotted her on a leash.  Thank goodness I got that chip installed in her today!

She's a little thin, but in good shape overall.  She'll be a great killer!

Nice dog, did not know people call you Sarge outside of here though. :) Was it one of the chips that you can scan to see who it belongs to?

Looks like a beautiful dog.

I've gotten three animals from the Human Society.  I regret the cat but not the dogs.

Does it have all of its required shots and check-ups?

She plays well with anyone!  Throw her a ball and she's entertained for hours.

The Dingo has always been the Alpha Female and is getting used to having another dog around.  They get along great, except when Nala comes near me inside the house.  The Dingo is vey protective, and has a hard time learning it's ok for the new pup to come near her master.  They both slept on my bed last night and did just fine, although the new one snores a bit. :P

After a couple fights, and a visit to the animal hospital, I had to give her up today! :(

You see, my dog at home had a hard time accepting her, and they would get into fights that had to be broken up.  During one last night, Nala took a chunk of skin the size of a fingernail off my Dingos front leg.  The wound took off the skin so that the muscle was visible underneath.

My gf is a pet nurse, and treated the wound last night after work.  I took the Dingo into the vet today to have her checked out, and she'll be fine.  No stitches were needed.

This really sucks!  I've never given up a dog before, and I hope I never have to do it again!  It wasn't her fault, and she was a great animal-that's why it's so hard.  It just couldn't be worked out with my Dingo the way she is.

I sincerely hope she finds a nice home, either as the only dog or with one that will be a bit more welcoming.

I plan on having the Dingo for the rest of her life, and want her to be safe.

That's tough C. Giving up a dog is never easy man. I applaud you for pushing through it though.
