Back when I had just started airsoft I wanted to paint my little clear pistol black so I used spray paint and I got paint inside my barrel. I've since then painted guns and done a good job but your painting job looked nicer than mine did.

Again, thank you. The best trick to painting guns is to not-overthink it! Don't stand there and try to figure out where the next stripe of paint will look best. Get some colors and break up the outline of the weapon. Then stop! Give it a few days before you decide to add more paint to make sure, because it's easily overdone.

Well, it doesn't really come off in flakes, but it does rub off and chip here and there. To me, the gun looks coolest when some of it's worn away. The only things that look best brand new are cars and baseball cards.
After all, it's about making the gun look like something that's NOT A GUN. Make it look like a treebranch, patch of grass, or some leaves. Painting it a solid color, or a scheme thats too small and intricate does nothing. Big patches of contrasting color works best. Try to stay away from bright colors, too.
