light vehicle rules
« on: April 03, 2005, 10:19:13 PM »
So my friends and I are wondering...  well, let me start out with this.

My bud has a 1946 Willys Jeep.  We've been approaching a lot of it as a possible vehicle to use while airsofting.  If we were to want to use it in games (as we would likely mount a 1919a4 on it), what would be the rules on it?  I mean... if people are going to be, well, childish, and decide to dictate each rule before we play than its not even worth making the .30 cal for it.  And its not worth using it besides as a transport to and from the AO and staging area.

THis is basically what we are NOT looking for:

People boycotting its use before each game because its "unfair"

People making the rules for what would "disable it" before each game (stupidities like "ooo, i shot your tire with a bb, so its flat and now you cant drive", and "i unloaded a high-cap on the front so its destroyed")

People whinning to ride in it when its not up to them.

We're basically looking for rules on the conduct, and on, like I said, what would disable it (i.e. direct shot with bb shower from a grenade, rockets, charges, etc.).

So what can you all tell me?

Thats entirely up to you if you are hosting the game it is to be used in.  At past AA games where we have had vehicles we used these rules for them:
1)Vehicle can only move at a slow walking speed, about 2 miles an hour.
2)Number of gunners allowed is set.  Usually one or two.
3)Depending on the scenario, vehicle passengers might be allowed.
4)Can be disabled with a grenade or nerf howler rocket.  Down time varies, but is usually the same as whatever the respawn time is for players.

This is just the typical rules that we might use.  There are others, like if a opposing player can get close enough to touch the vehicle that counts as disabling it - simulating slapping on a "sticky bomb".  These rules are typical of many big games too.

Whenever there is a vehicle used in a game it is usually the focal point of the scenario or a mission objective.  If you want to use your vehicle at an upcoming game, just be sure to let the organizers know.  That way it can be worked in to the scenario some how and rules can be set before hand.

Alright, awsome.  I just wanted to make sure that people wouldn't treat it in the above way mentioned.  I appreciate it!

In addition, this is typically done where the vehicle has to have at least one escort player on foot. The vehicle can only move if there is a friendly player within 5 feet or something.

This last weekend, we used the vehicle (a truck) as a method of insertion for assaulting a fixed position. That worked out pretty well and was fun for the assaulters and the defenders.

Grenades worked remarkably well on it, Greg and Cag got two direct hits on us sitting in the back.  We put armor on it, with cut out slots for the guns.

Back in the day, we used Jay's "work truck" for scenarios at OG BT.  It had a rack in the back that we duct-taped some cardboard to.

Needless to say, it was more of a hindrance than an aid, so we removed it.

One of the most fun scenarios was to have the vehicle, loaded with guys in the back, drive around and try to hunt down the guys on foot.

That's kinda what we were thinking of. He had toolboxes built into the back of his truck, though. They made it a lot easier to stay in place. We were sliding all over the place this weekend. Still fun, though! :D

no sirr.  Merc's got an M-37, but not a Willys.  The jeep belongs to my neighbor/fellow satac member, coincidentaly named Vincent.

and delta, sorry to say but there are no photos.  Vincents been cleaning it up and adding some missing stuff, and now all thats left is getting the new wheels on there and registering it.  He completely restored it.  Before it was just sitting in the backyard doing nothing except aging.  But now... well, yea... its awsome.

oh and we're in the middle of town.  off glenn and campbell.  probably close to you if your at the UofA.

I'm glad to hear he's completely restoring it (at least I assume to its former military glory). I've always wanted one, just never had enough time to restore. Oh well, someday. But, yeah, if you guys are working on it someday, let me know - I'd love to see it :D .

Umm....I remeber it differently.  I remember one mission to use the truck as cover, send one guy out under heavy cover fire to retrieve a satchel, return and exfiltrate.  Well, we got as far as me getting the satchel into the truck but I was shot in the leg (wounded) as I tried getting in the truck. I had "fallen" off the truck with some one yelling "where's Mad Sarge!"  and you responding with "Who the heck cares! Lets get the heck out of here!!!"    The truck proceeded to drive forward as I tried to use it for cover but I couldnt keep up and it drove away and I was captured!  Ah I remember those days, fun times, fun times  8)

Hi all,
Might not work in many scenarios (you can't shoot at it, FAA says!) .. But I have a PPC -Powered Parachute.

Once, we did a paintball game in Oregon which had two Hummers and a Bell Jet Ranger with gunners. Lotsa fun.

Air unit... -might be good for recon, or maybe a water balloon "napalm" strike...

See you soon.
