If you can afford to use a real aimpoint on your AEGs then you have money burning a hole in your pants pocket. At the distance we shoot at with AEGS  I dont even use a scope. I can shoulder my AEG and know where it hits! So the Rep. Aimpoint is all for looks on my AEGs.

Now for the Real Aimpoints. If your shooting over 100 yards a fake  red dot is pretty useless. You can make a body shot but the red dot cover pretty much the hole target at 100 yard. Thats where the fine optics of the real Aimpoint come in. The red dot is as fine as a pin point  giving you that head shot or body shot a 100 yard

And yes I own 2 real Aimpoints,Eotech, two fakepoints, and a fakecog

I agree about the accuracy of a red-dot for precision shooting, for me its a quick aquistion tool.  A lot of people make the mistake of turning up the brightness of the red dot, if you need to shoot a distance turn down the brightness so the dot is transparent and you can see your target.  That being said since the dot is covering an area of a couple feet a 100yrds (depending on the dot MOA) that is your accuracy.

I don't know if I'd call 4MOA "pin point." :P

It helps having a wife that works nights, and no kids.

During the winter I do predator hunting only (taken Benn and Hawk with me).

Matt, you can indeed put 30 rounds into a head sized target at 100 yards using a 4MOA Aimpoint.  I did so a few weekends ago and enjoyed myself immensely...

Pinpoint enough for me.

As Christian stated, check out the EOtechs.

I recently picked up a 551, for 275 on ebay brand new, they sell for 400 retail.  Check there, hell for 150bux more then a replica you can pickup a decent EOtech.  And use it on real guns without worry of loosing zero.

The replicas will do ya fine, but if your going for milsim, why not go all the way...

Ever fired a 40mm?  I'm sure you have if you were in the Corps, but they are hardly accurate enough to warrant such optics.  Although, the Docter setup on the quad sight does look like a good idea!

Kyle, it's that kind of no-BS experience with our tools that is going to save these forums!   8)

I don't doubt it, I'm just saying that the 4MOA dot on an Aimpoint M2/ML2 isn't as small as they come.

Yes I have actually.  Both the Mk 19 and the M203.  Never got a chance to use an M-79.  The Marines were kind to me in regards to shooting just about everything in the armory.  Of course, they usually are good to thier Doc's.  :)

That's where the EOThingy comes in to play.

For airsoft, get a replica unless you plan on getting an actual firearm down the road. Why disgrace such a fine piece of equipment by limiting it to an airsoft "gun."

I used to have my EOTech, but sold it in favor of a Remmy 700PSS. I miss it, but I'm thinking I might get an AimPoint this next time to see how I like it. That, and with the M3 coming out, battery life is up even more compared to the M2/ML2's. I just wish AimPoint would throw a nice little ring around their dot to aid in close-in "engagements," should they ever take place. That's where the EOTech's got them beat, a 1MOA dot for distance, and a 65MOA circle for close in.  ;)

The M3's and ML3's are already out, bro.  You just gotta know where to look.

Pretty bitchin' hunks of glass, but to me the extra cost is not justified for what I'd use it for.  So, they changed the battery life from 80 million years to 80 BILLION, big deal.  And no one but squids goes for a swim with their optic, so the submersion factor is moot.  I can take any decent optic in the rain.

AZSarge, suppose you're right about the M3. I remember Ron over at ATF (Arizona Tactical Firearms) was talking about them a while back, and they're supposed to be pretty impressive. But if you're not going to use them to their full potential, might as well buy an M2/ML2 and save some dough.
